Hi Everyone,

I had a great question from a reader regarding this tip: after boiling eggs, don't pour the water down the drain. Instead, let it cool; then water plants with the nutrient-filled water.

Here's the question: Holly, can you still use the water from
the boiled eggs if you put vinegar into the water before boiling? I've always used white vinegar to boil my eggs.

Answer - after doing some research I have finally found the answer. Vinegars like old fashioned apple cider vinegar (the kind that is cloudy looking because they don't filter out all the residues and pulp etc) contains a great deal of minerals and other items that are very good for plants. HOWEVER, you do need to significantly water down the vinegar, because vinegar used straight or in too high of a concentration will kill plants very quickly.

Question 1: I had my grandsons for the first weekend and was changing him on the bed (dumb thing for me to do) when he peed all over my new mattress. It now has a yellow stain any idea on how i can clean it. Thanks so much for all your helpful hints over the years Kar

I would try the old hydrogen peroxide method. Blot the stain with a towel from the outside of the stain to the inside until removed. This can also try using white vinegar, same method as with the hydrogen peroxide.

Side note: You can cover the cleaned area with baking soda to neutralize the odor and leave the baking soda on the area overnight. Vacuum the baking soda off the mattress the next morning.

Hint 2: Just in time for summer....

Your first reaction to a sunburn may be to reach for some aloe vera. Though aloe is great for sunburns, if you can't afford to buy some, reach for your jar of mayo! The oil in the mayo helps to condition the skin and the coolness of the refrigerated mayo is soothing. Of course, it does leave an oily layer on your skin until it soaks into the skin so be careful leaning against furniture, etc.
