Meryl Streep, Ariana Grande join cast of Netflix's 'Prom'

An all-star cast including Meryl Streep, Ariana Grande, James Corden, Nicole Kidman and others, are set to star in Ryan Murphy's film adaptation of Broadway musical The Prom for Netflix.

Awkwafina, Keegan-Michael Key and Andrew Rannells are also set to star in the project directed and produced by Murphy.

The Prom, which debuted at New York's Longacre Theatre in November after first premiering in Atlanta, follows a female teenager in Indiana who wants to bring her girlfriend to prom. A group protests the school after they are not allowed to attend the dance.

Streep will portray Dee Dee Allen, a Broadway actress who joins Corden's Barry Glickman, Kidman's Angie Dickinson and Rannells' Trent Oliver in championing the teenager's cause in order to revitalize their careers.

Grande will star as Alyssa whose mother is the head of the school's PTA. Awkwafina will appear as the Broadway group's publicist Ms. Sheldon with Key as Streep's love interest.

The musical is based on an original concept by Jack Viertel with a book by Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin. Matthew Sklar composed the music with lyrics by Beguelin. Casey Nicholaw served as director and choreographer.

"The Prom is one of the most uplifting, heartfelt and special musicals I have ever seen on Broadway. It's truly an original that celebrates underdogs and says in a loving spectacular way that LGBTQ rights are human rights," Murphy said in April.

Murphy, known for his work on American Horror Story, Glee, Nip and Tuck and American Crime Story, signed a multi-year deal to produce new shows and films for Netflix in February 2018.

Rosie O'Donnell is 'cordial' with Whoopi Goldberg after 'mean' remark

Rosie O'Donnell says she's "cordial" with Whoopi Goldberg following her remarks about the talk show host earlier this year.

The 57-year-old television personality said during Monday's episode of Watch What Happens Live she's seen Goldberg since calling The View co-host "mean" and her "worst experience" on live TV in the Ramin Setoodeh book Ladies Who Punch.

"Well, believe it or not, we bumped into each other physically at the Megan Mullally show," O'Donnell told host Andy Cohen. "We were very cordial and said hello. I've worked on a project with her for ABC since this whole McGillicutty occurred."

"I'm always gonna respect her. I'm always gonna look up to her," she said. "She was someone who was inspirational in my career and you like to keep those people in a place of reverence if you can."

O'Donnell and Goldberg co-hosted Season 18 of The View. O'Donnell, who also co-hosted Season 10, spoke to Setoodeh for Ladies Who Punch, a book about the reported tensions at The View.

"Whoopi Goldberg was as mean as anyone has ever been on television to me, personally -- while I was siting there," O'Donnell said. "Worse than Fox News. The worst experience I've ever had on live television was interacting with her."

O'Donnell also addressed her comments about The View co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck during her interview with Cohen. She said Hasselbeck took her remarks about having a crush on her out of context.

"Come on. She knows, too," O'Donnell said. "That's the thing, is that she knows exactly what I'm talking about."

In addition, O'Donnell denied reports she was in the running to replace Julie Chen as a co-host on The Talk.

"They didn't ask me to be on The Talk," she said. "I just went when Julie Chen was having people fill in, I was one of the many people. I live in New York -- it would be very hard for me to move with my family out to California -- so that was never a real thing."

'Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge' opens in Disneyland, fills to capacity

Disney's Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge theme park located inside Disneyland in Anaheim, became open to the public on Monday, filling to capacity within 20 minutes.

Monday was the first day park guests could enter the 14-acre Star Wars area following a soft opening in May which required a reservation to enter.

Walk-ins were turned away within 20 minutes as it filled to capacity. Guests then had come back at a later time through a virtual queue system that can be accessed through the Disneyland app.

The virtual queue places guests into boarding groups and assigns a number. At different times of the day, different groups will be allowed into Galaxy's Edge as others exit the area.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge includes the thrill ride Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, themed restaurants such as Oga's Cantina and stores such as Savi's Workshop where lightsabers can be built and purchased.

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run had reached a wait time of three hours before the area was at capacity. Oga's Cantina and Savi's Workshop, which work through reservations, were also completely booked.

'28 Days Later' director shares plans for third film

28 Days Later director Danny Boyle is sharing plans for a third film.

The British director said in an interview with The Independent published Monday he's working with Alex Garland, who wrote 28 Days Later, on a new sequel to the zombie movie.

28 Days Later starred Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, Megan Burns and Brendan Gleeson, and opened in theaters in 2002. The film inspired a 2007 sequel, 28 Weeks Later, which was directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.

"Alex Garland and I have a wonderful idea for the third part," Boyle said. "It's properly good."

"The original film led to a bit of resurgence in the zombie drama and it doesn't reference any of that. It doesn't feel stale at all," he added of the sequel. "[Garland is] concentrating on directing his own work at the moment, so it's stood in abeyance really, but it's a you-never-know."

Boyle previously told IndieWire in 2015 the development process was underway with original producer Andrew Macdonald.

"It's not quite ready to go, but, there's been a bit of work done on that," the director said. "It's in a process at the moment I wouldn't have any inhibition about being involved in it at all. It's amazing what has happened to the zombie genre since we made it."

Garland had voiced doubts about the project getting made in a Reddit AMA in February 2018. A fan asked the writer and director if there were any plans for a third film.

"Kind of, but doubt it will ever happen," Garland responded.

Boyle is also known for directing the films Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours. His new movie Yesterday stars Himesh Patel and Lily James, and opens in theaters Friday.

Which Marvel actor says he couldn't walk after his workout with Jake Gyllenhaal?

Tom Holland appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and discussed the friendship he has with his Spider-Man: Far From Home co-star Jake Gyllenhaal.

"We love each other," Holland said about Gyllenhaal before detailing a memorable workout he had with the actor at a gym.

Holland said he initially didn't want to workout with Gyllenhaal who he praised as being in great shape. The Spider-Man star also stated that he is very competitive and wanted to match or exceed the workout Gyllenhaal was doing.

"There's a law in the gym that you can't run slower then the guy next to you," Holland said about wanting to outshine Gyllenhaal while on a treadmill despite getting tired early. Gyllenhaal made things harder for Holland as he kept suggesting to run longer and at a steeper incline.

Holland was game to do anything Gyllenhaal was doing, however, and even suggested longer run times.

"We're doing press later that day and I can't walk," Holland said about the aftermath of the hard workout. "I'm sitting there and a journalist goes 'What's wrong with you?' and I said 'Well I do all of my own stunts.'"

Spider-Man: Far From Home is set to arrive in theaters on July 2.

Holland's Late Show appearance also included the 23-year-old taking part in a Rescue Dog Rescue segment with Colbert. The duo presented a number of stray puppies who need a home, telling fictional stories about each canine in order to help with their adoption.

The puppies were each given Marvel-themed names such as Spider-Pup and Black Widdle.
