Richard Gere is a dad again at age 69

Richard Gere is a dad again, nearly two decades after the birth of his first child.

The 69-year-old actor's rep confirmed Monday to CNN that Gere welcomed a baby boy with his wife, Alejandra Silva, 35.

Gere's rep also shared the news with People. The rep said Gere's son was born late last week in New York.

Gere is also parent to 19-year-old Homer James Jigme with ex-wife Carey Lowell, while Silva is mom to 6-year-old son Albert with ex-husband Govind Friedland.

Gere and Silva married in New York in April. Silva announced her pregnancy in August by sharing a since-deleted photo of the Dalai Lama blessing her baby bump.

"A very special moment just a few minutes ago... Getting blessings for our precious to come," she wrote. "We couldn't announce it before telling HH Dalai Lama."

Gere is known for such films as An Officer and a Gentleman, Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride. He will have his first series regular TV role in the upcoming British series MotherFatherSon.

'Tolkien': Nicholas Hoult tells a story in first trailer

'Tolkien': Nicholas Hoult tells a story in first trailerTolkien, a biopic about writer J.R.R. Tolkien, has released a first trailer featuring Nicholas Hoult.

The 29-year-old British actor plays a young version of the Lord of the Rings author in a preview of the new movie.

The trailer shows Tolkien (Hoult) tell a story to his wife and muse, Edith Bratt (Lily Collins). The author wrote The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings following his experiences in World War I.

"It's a story about journeys -- the journeys we take to prove ourselves," he says. "About what it means to love and be loved. Have courage. It's about fellowship."

Tolkien is directed by Finnish director Dome Karukoski and co-stars Colm Meaney, Tom Glynn-Carney and Anthony Boyle. The film explores Tolkien's early life as an orphan and how WWI influenced his vision of Middle-earth.

Collins confirmed in January that Tolkien will open in theaters May 10.

"Surprise! Tolkien is coming out in 4 months!" she tweeted. "So excited to share this beautiful story about such a revered and epic storyteller. Welcome to the Fellowship."

Tolkien was best known for The Hobbit, which debuted in 1937, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy of books, published in the 1950s. The author died at age 81 in September 1973.

"I'm at a place now where I've been through so many relationships, and I haven't been good at it all the time, at all. I've had a lot to learn, but I feel like I'm at a place where I'm really ready for that ... things come to you when you're ready, I believe."

Carson Daly's 'Last Call' to end after 17 years

GadgetsCarson Daly's late night talk show Last Call is coming to an end after 17 years on NBC, the network announced.

Daly, who will remain at NBC as a part of Today and as the host of The Voice, confirmed that Last Call was ending on Twitter Tuesday.

"Yes, Last Call is wrapping up! I'm forever grateful & proud to all who have worked w us over the years. So many have gone on to incredible success," the television personality said.

"I owe our EP Stewart Bailey & team a bottle of something expensive. They masterfully keep this train on the track for many years," he continued.

NBC says that Daly decided to end Last Call in order to spend more time with his family. The network will be adding a new show in the future that will take up Last Call's 1:30 a.m. time slot. A finale date has yet to be announced.

Last Call with Carson Daly debuted in January 2002, replacing Later. The series, which will reach 2,000 episodes, at first featured a traditional talk show format before switching to pre-recorded interviews and musical performances.

Daly discussed his time on Last Call, how it featured artists such as Maroon 5 and Ed Sheeran early in their careers and how he met his wife Siri Pinter through the show on Today Wednesday.

"Someone else should have this. Somebody younger," Daly said about leaving behind the time slot and platform. "It's time for somebody else."

Katy Perry apologizes after 'blackface' shoe controversy

Katy Perry issued an apology after two of her shoe designs came under fire for resembling blackface.

The 34-year-old singer said Tuesday that she didn't mean "to inflict any pain" with the Rue and Ora shoes in her Katy Perry Collections.

Perry and her brand management company, Global Brands Group, issued the statement after many criticized the designs online. The pair said the shoes, which came in black, beige and other colors, were inspired by modern art.

"The Rue and The Ora were part of a collection that was released last summer in 9 different colorways (black, blue, gold, graphite, lead, nude, pink, red, silver) and envisioned as a nod to modern art and surrealism," Perry and Global said, according to E! News.

"I was saddened when it was brought to my attention that it was being compared to painful images reminiscent of blackface. Our intention was never to inflict any pain. We have immediately removed them from katyperrycollections.com," they added.

Retailers pulled the Rue Face Slip-On Loafers and the Ora Face Block Heel Sandal from shelves Monday following the controversy.

"Ok Katy Perry explain these shoes SMH #blackface #KatyPerry #gucci #gucciblackface #boycott," one person had tweeted Monday.

Gucci apologized last week after people called out a wool turtleneck sweater for resembling blackface. The $900 black sweater featured a long collar that covered the lower part of the face and a red mouth slit.

"We consider diversity to be a fundamental value to be fully upheld, respected, and at the forefront of every decision we make," the company said.

Which reality show star says new dating show was 'exciting' and 'awkward'?

Kate Gosselin says starring on her own dating show was an "exciting" and "awkward" experience.

The 43-year-old television personality and her 18-year-old twin daughters, Cara and Mady, discussed her new TLC series, Kate Plus Date, Tuesday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.

"I knew what I wasn't looking for, but I couldn't articulate what I was looking for," Gosselin said, according to USA Today. "They were strictly blind dates, but I didn't even know, really, their names, until minutes before."

"A lot of the awkwardness, uncomfortable terrified reactions came from the fact that they were hit or miss," she added. "It's a very difficult concept, and this is a very real show in that I am really looking for someone."

Kate Plus Date follows Gosselin as she looks for love in New York. The mom-of-eight goes on a series of dates set up by matchmakers.

"I love to date on TV -- the safety it provides -- but I didn't realize how awkward I'd feel," she said. "It's hard to watch, exciting, awkward, fun and really rewarding."

Gosselin is parent to eight children -- Cara, Mady and 14-year-old sextuplets Aaden, Alexis, Collin, Hannah, Joel and Leah -- with ex-husband Jon Gosselin, from whom she split in 2009. Cara and Mady said they support their mom's decision to start dating again.

"We've been nudging her to date for years," Mady said, according to E! News. "We're all, all eight of us, are so glad that she finally is."

"She deserves to be happy. Everyone deserves to be happy," she added.

Kate Plus Date premieres in June.
