*-- Rubio critical of Obama's immigration plan --*

WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., says President Obama's executive order on immigration is not the answer to the nation's immigration issues.

Rubio, speaking Sunday on NBC News' "Meet the Press," said Obama's order that would end deportation of some young immigrants could lead to more problems down the road.

"We can't do anything that encourages illegal immigration in the future," he said. "People are frustrated our immigration laws are not being enforced."

The Florida Republican said he doesn't support the proposed Dream Act because it is too broad.

"It doesn't just help the kids, it ultimately, in a very short order, could lead to these kids bringing in multiple relatives," he said. "It could lead to millions of other people immigrating through this process."

Rubio also talked about an Arizona immigration law that the Supreme Court is expected to rule on this week. The law allows police to check a person's legal status during a traffic stop.

Rubio acknowledged that Arizona had "a right to pass that bill" but said he doesn't think it should be a national model.

"What I've said repeatedly is I believe Arizona has a right to pass that bill. I understand why they did it. But I don't think it's a national model, and I don't think other states should follow suit."

Rubio said federal officials are to blame for the law "for not doing its proper role in enforcing immigration law."
