*-- GOP creates female outreach group --*

WASHINGTON - U.S. congressional Republicans say they have created a new group, the Republican Women's Policy Committee, in a bid to increase the party's standing with women.

The group, chaired by Rep. Renee Ellmers, R-N.C., will bring together Republican women in Congress, along with some associate male colleagues, to develop a strategy to make the GOP more appealing to women.

Women have long voted in larger numbers for Democrats and the 2012 election was no exception, Roll Call reported Wednesday. With that knowledge, the group will develop policies the party thinks will appeal to more women and will coach members on how to reach out to female voters in their districts, the publication said.

The group has enlisted the help of Reagan administration veteran Michele Woodward to serve as an ambassador and strategist for its campaign to gain support among women.
