Greetings fellow Bizarros:

This is the kind of cyclical activity would be an ideal example of the free market system...if only somebody could find an inexhaustible supply of Buddhists.

In a display of pacifism and respect for all life, a group of Buddhists traveled to Gloucester and purchased 534 lobsters, about 600 pounds worth, from a wholesaler and dumped them back into the sea in a prayer ceremony in which the crustaceans' bands were cut and they were blessed before being released.

The actions of the group of 30 who boarded a whale-watching ship to conduct their ceremony, included prayers, mantras, and walking boxes of lobsters in a circle around blessed objects, which is designed to 'develop a karmic connection for the animals' future lifetimes.'

That future lifetime turned out to be not as long as hoped.

Since the location of the ceremony was known beforehand, lobstermen from a fishing vessel traveled to the site of the ceremony, laid their traps, and hauled up exactly 534 lobsters.

Which they then brought right back to market.

"It's really not meant as a slight toward Buddhism at all," said the co-owner of the dock where the boat and several others offload their catch, "We're just having fun."

"Even if they get captured again, they've had a longer life," said Wendy Cook, who helped lead the ceremony.

Bizarrely,
Lewis

*-- Lightning strikes man, passes to sink --*

BARROWFORD, England - A British man who was struck by lightning said he credits a chance encounter with a metal sink with saving his life. Kevin Holden, 61, of Barrowford, England, said he went outside in the rain to retrieve his golf umbrella and a blue flash threw him about 4 feet into the air while he was re-entering the house, The Sun reported Monday. Holden said he grabbed a stainless steel sink to steady himself and saw an arc of electricity shoot from his thumb to the basin. "It was a brilliant flash of light. I could only think that I had been struck by lightning," Holden said. "I was lucky. I had a pair of trainers on but if I had bare feet it could have been very different. "When paramedics came they were looking for an entry point and an exit wound but they said the lightning must have passed around my body. It must have traveled to earth down the sink," he said. "I was lucky. I felt like I had hangover, my head was ringing."

*-- Woman sees Jesus in tie-dye shirt --*

INDIANAPOLIS - An Indianapolis woman said she was "shocked at what I saw" when an image resembling Jesus Christ appeared on a shirt she tie-dyed. Carylin Landers, who said she has been tie-dying as a hobby for about three years, said after her discovery she accidentally dropped the part of the shirt with the Jesus image in a dark navy dye while coloring another part of the shirt and feared she'd covered the image, WRTV, Indianapolis, reported Monday. "I rinsed it when it was done, only to see that the second color didn't touch the face. It only outlined it more," she said. Landers said many people have agreed with her that the image looks like Jesus. "I'm not even a religious person," Landers said. "I was shocked at what I saw."

Lewis, It sounds to me like the people offering $500 for the return of a beanie baby monkey are a little bit looney. One of them said "It's like losing a child. We take him everywhere we go, we talk to him. We even love to stand him up and make him dance and come alive." I'm torn between feeling anger at their comparing a human life to a beanie baby, and a mix of feeling bad/amusement at their obvious break from reality. -Keith
[Yep. It's called Schizophrenia.]

Obviously, these Farmers need to be 'licensed', so that we can track their products- and people need to file a FDA form when they buy these dangerous foods. this is California, they take their 'organic' s**t seriously. remember, farmers don't kill people, foods do.. or is that another problem? -Corky

The police in Ca. are looking for any excuse to thin the population. The Benicia P.D. did a "felony takedown" on my wife and 3 year old son, we later found out from the dispatcher the officers were told before the red lights came on they had the wrong vehicle. One of the cops told my wife the only reason they didn't shoot her was because they couldn't get a clear shot around my son in his car seat. Just think all of my domestic and financial problems could have ended there and then. -Brian (always wary of the police in Ca.)
[Population control advocates (and conspiracy theorists) are a whole other story, one that is worth exploring in a future issue of BN, but I doubt it involves cops capping random motorists.]

Arresting a Farmer at gunpoint for providing illegal food? Silly. But organic farmers and people "reject safety technology" can be dangerous and people can die. In Waterloo when I lived there some organic farmers gave a bunch of people salmonella by contaminated containers making cheese. Modern farming technology is here for a reason. -John
[Right. Thank God that nipped that Mad Cow thing in the bud. And the salmonella in the spinach...and the contaminated cucumbers from a couple months ago...etc...]

Lewis, I live in Australia and can assure you that kangaroo meat is commonly on the menus of many restaurants. Also, the Wild Oz meat market in our Central Market sells kangaroo meat so you can prepare it yourself. My wife and I went out last night to our favorite Chinese restaurant and it was on the menu also. I didn't have it but I had the crocodile meat instead. -John
[In Chinese restaurants in the U.S. the meat is usually stray cat.]
