Halloween Decorations Are Getting Scary Expensive!
Halloween used to be a pretty inexpensive holiday. You carved a pumpkin, hung up a few fake spiderwebs, maybe put a plastic skeleton on the porch, and called it a day. But have you seen the price of Halloween decorations lately? It seems like turning your front yard into a
spooky masterpiece could cost as much as a weekend getaway!
Gone are the days when a few pumpkins and a homemade ghost were enough. Now, stores are filled with giant inflatable monsters, life-sized animatronic witches, talking skeletons, and enormous decorations that look like they belong in a haunted house. Some of these decorations cost
hundreds of dollars, and people are buying them!
Of course, we have all seen those houses in the neighborhood that go completely overboard for Halloween. You know the ones. They have fog machines, flashing lights, creepy sound effects, and enough skeletons to fill a graveyard. They are fun to look at, but you have to wonder how much money went into creating that spooky scene.
And it is not just the decorations getting expensive. Add in costumes, candy, pumpkins, and Halloween parties, and suddenly October can put a pretty big dent in your wallet. Even something as simple as handing out candy can get pricey, especially if you live in a neighborhood with hundreds of trick-or-treaters.
What is really interesting is how Halloween decorating has become almost as
competitive as Christmas decorating. People are putting up elaborate displays weeks before October 31st, and social media certainly isn't helping. Once someone posts a videhttp://dodmaker.com/nlm2/Default.aspxo of their incredible haunted front yard, everyone else wants to step up their game.
But here's the thing. Do we really need to spend hundreds of dollars to enjoy Halloween?
Some of the best decorations are still the simplest ones. A few carved pumpkins, some homemade ghosts, and a little creativity can make a house look just as festive without emptying your wallet. Plus, making decorations with the kids or grandkids can be half the fun!
There is nothing wrong with going all out if Halloween is your favorite holiday and you have the money to spend. After all, some people collect Christmas decorations, while others love filling their yards with spooky creatures.
Still, it makes you wonder if we have turned another fun, simple holiday into an
expensive competition.
What do you think? Have Halloween decorations gotten ridiculously expensive, or is spending a little extra on spooky fun worth every penny?
Until next time -
