Fuel Economy Drops Faster Than You Think

Every vehicle is a little different, but most achieve their best fuel economy between about 45 and 60 mph. Once you start cruising at 70, 75, or even 80 mph, your engine works harder to overcome wind resistance.

That means more trips to the gas station. If you drive long distances, even a small drop in fuel economy can add up to hundreds of dollars over a year.

The Savings Go Beyond Gas

Driving the speed limit also helps reduce wear on your car. Tires, brakes, and suspension components generally last longer when they aren't constantly dealing with higher speeds and harder braking.
