Read about our staffGot a minute? Good.

We're doing some shuffling around here and I have always wanted to write Handy Hints and I got my wish!

I love finding, testing fun and clever hacks that will make things just a bit easier. I hope you enjoy them. And please don't hesitate to shoot me an email back with questions or tips of your own!

There are some tips that are so simple you wonder why no one ever mentioned them before.

This week's Handy Hints features two easy tricks that I just found out myself!

I hope one of them becomes a new favorite in your home.

Vacuum Your Refrigerator Coils

Handy

Photo: Vacuuming your refrigerator coils just twice a year can improve efficiency and help your fridge run better.

Your refrigerator works around the clock, but many of us forget it needs a little maintenance. About twice a year, pull the refrigerator away from the wall and vacuum the dust from the coils underneath or behind it.

Removing built-up dust helps your refrigerator run more efficiently, which may reduce energy use and can even help extend the appliance's life.

Freeze Leftover Herbs in Olive Oil

Here's one I can't wait to try! Fresh herbs always seem to wilt before I can use them all. Instead of throwing them away, chop the leftovers and place them in an ice cube tray. Cover them with olive oil and freeze.

When you're cooking soups, sauces, or vegetables, simply drop a cube into the pan for instant flavor without wasting fresh herbs.

Got a handy tip of your own? Reply back to me, I love reading your emails!
