Baking Soda: The Budget-Friendly Household Hero
If there is one inexpensive item every home should have, it's a box of baking soda. Most people think of it for baking cookies or cake, but this simple pantry staple can help clean, freshen, and deodorize your home while saving you money on specialty products.
Freshen Carpets Naturally
Before vacuuming, sprinkle a light layer of baking soda over your carpet or area rugs. Let it sit for about 15 minutes (longer if there are stubborn odors), then vacuum thoroughly.
This simple trick helps absorb odors from pets, cooking, and just everyday lift. It will leave your home smelling fresher without pricy carpet fresheners.
Deodorize the Fridge
Place an open box or even a small bowl of baking soda in your fridge to help absorb unwanted odors. You can replace the box every few months for the best results.
Make Your Sink Shine
Sprinkle some baking soda directly onto your kitchen or bathroom sink and scrub gently with a damp sponge or cloth. This will help remove grime and water spots while being less abrasive than many store bought cleaners. You'll get a sparkling sink for just pennies per cleaning.
Freshen Shoes
Got some stinky shoes? Sprinkle a small amount inside your sneakers overnight and shake the shoes out the next morning. This will help absorb moisture and odors, and making your shoes smell fresher.
