Read about our staffGreetings!

Almost everybody uses disposable razors; both men and women. They may not be the most environmentally friendly product, but they are safe, convenient and they work great.

They are also expensive! You will pay anywhere from 6 to 14 or 15 dollars depending on the brand and how big of a 'pack' you buy.

But you can dramatically extend the life of your disposable razors with just a tiny, little bit on maintenance. I just learned about Stropping... read below to see how it works!

Five Below

Thrifty Tip: Two tips to extend the life of disposable razors...

1. Clean and rinse your disposable razors.
I keep an old toothbrush under my sink. When I am done shaving I clean between the blades with the toothbrush to remove hair and residue, and then I rinse the blades with a few drops of rubbing alcohol. The blades are steel and the alcohol will keep them from rusting!

2. Strop your razor on your blue jeans.
You might have seen a barber 'stropping' a straight razor on a piece of leather in an old movie or TV show. The exact same kind of thing will work on a disposable razor. Simply rub your razor against the denim AWAY from the cutting edge of the blades 20 or 30 strokes. This takes fine nicks out of the blades and keeps them sharp for much longer.

In Closing...

ViewAllProductsBlueCleaning and rinsing your razors and stropping them on your jeans may take an extra 2 minutes every time you shave, but you will extend the life of your disposable razor from a week or two to months. When one pack of razors lasts you an entire year you won't think it's a waste of time!

Handy Hint: Use Vinegar to Restore Cloudy Glassware

Hard water can leave glassware looking dull. To restore shine, soak the glasses in warm vinegar for ten minutes. Rinse well and let them air dry. Vinegar removes mineral buildup without scrubbing, harsh chemicals, or expensive cleaners. This works on drinking glasses, vases, and even some pitchers. If the buildup is heavy, repeat the soak or wipe gently with a soft cloth dipped in vinegar. The result is clear, sparkling glass that looks new again.
