Woman Wakes Up Inside Her Coffin Moments Before Cremation
We comb the internet so you don't have to, digging up the weirdest, wildest, and most downright unbelievable news stories - the ones you didn't even know you needed. And, just like clockwork, it's time for this week's pick...
This story out of Thailand stopped me in my tracks. A 65 year-old woman was brought to a temple for cremation after her family believed she had died, and she woke up inside her own coffin. It reads like the setup to a bad horror flick, but it happened in real life, and the whole thing is equal parts frightening, unbelievable, and oddly fortunate.
The woman had been bedridden for two years and her health had been declining. A couple of days before everything unfolded, her breathing appeared to stop. Her brother believed she had passed away. He put her in a coffin and made the long trip from their home in Phitsanulok to a hospital in Bangkok. She had mentioned wanting to donate her organs, so he was trying to honor her wishes.
The hospital would not accept her body because he did not have a death certificate. Without that piece of paper, the staff could not move forward. So he tried the next place he thought could help. A Buddhist temple outside Bangkok, one known for offering free cremation services. But they also refused to proceed without the proper documentation.
While the brother was discussing the paperwork issue with the temple staff, something happened that no one in the room was prepared for. People started hearing knocking from inside the coffin. At first, they thought it must be their imagination. Then the knocking came again, faint but unmistakable. That was when panic, confusion, and sheer disbelief all crashed into the room at once.
They opened the coffin and found her alive. She was barely conscious but she was breathing and moving. The temple manager said she was even blinking slowly as people leaned over her. Imagine thinking you are handling a dead body and then seeing the person's eyes open. I do not care how tough you think you are. That will rattle anyone.
Once they realized she was still alive, the staff called for medical help. She was quickly taken to a nearby hospital. The temple's abbot stepped in and said the temple would cover her medical bills going forward, which was probably the first bit of good news her family had heard in days.
Stories like this stick with you. There is the obvious shock factor of someone waking up inside a coffin. But there is also a deeper concern here. How did this woman get declared dead without any real medical verification. How did no one check for signs of life. And how close did she come to being cremated while still alive. It is the kind of scenario that makes you stop and think about how fragile everything really is.
Still, as bizarre as the whole thing is, it ended with her getting another chance. It could have easily turned into a tragedy if no one had heard those knocks. Instead, it became one of those rare news stories where luck stepped in at the last possible second. And in a strange way, it is a reminder that sometimes people really do come back from the edge.
