Read about our staffGreetings!

Booking a flight can feel like playing a guessing game. One day tickets are affordable, the next they've doubled. I've learned that scoring the best airline deals isn't about luck — it's about timing, tools, and a little strategy.

Below are some of the best ways to make sure you don't pay more than you have to for your next trip.

1. Know the Right Time to Book

The old "Tuesday at midnight" myth isn't always true, but studies show booking 1–3 months ahead for domestic flights and 2–6 months for international flights often lands you the best fare. Avoid last-minute booking unless you're flexible. If you are a Southwest Airlines flyer, Tuesday's and Wednesday's are usually have cheaper flights.

2. Use Fare Alerts & Track Prices

Websites and apps like Google Flights, Skyscanner, and Hopper let you set alerts for routes you're eyeing. You'll get notified when fares drop — no more constant refreshing.

3. Be Flexible with Dates and Airports

BestSellers-BoltFlying a day earlier or later can save hundreds. The same goes for checking nearby airports — sometimes a short drive means a big discount.

4. Clear Your Cookies (or Use Incognito Mode)

Ever feel like fares go up the more you search? You're not imagining it. Airlines and booking sites sometimes use your browsing history to raise prices. Incognito mode keeps things fair.

5. Don't Overlook Budget Airlines

Carriers like Spirit, Frontier, or Allegiant can look dirt cheap — but watch baggage and seat fees. If you travel light, they can be unbeatable.

6. Another Southwest Airlines Tip

Book ahead but go in and "change" your flight whenever you know there is a sale. It will show you how much you can save. If it is good, hit change fight and you'll get a credit!

In Closing...

Airfare will never feel "cheap," but with a little planning you can avoid paying full price. My best advice: start tracking early, stay flexible, and don't be afraid to mix-and-match carriers or airports. Every dollar saved on tickets is another you can spend enjoying your destination.
