Read about our staffGreetings!

This summer, my porch has been full of life, and it did not cost me a penny. I found a simple way to get free plants that look great and make the space more inviting.

How? I asked around. A neighbor was dividing hostas. A local gardening group was sharing cuttings. I even swapped a few old pots for fresh greenery.

Free plants are everywhere if you know where to look. Below are three easy ways to get started.

3 Ways to Get Free Plants

1. Join Local Plant Swaps
Libraries, community centers, and online groups often host free plant exchange events.

2. Propagate What You Have
Cuttings from existing plants can easily grow into new ones. Try spider plants, pothos, or succulents.

3. Ask Gardeners You Know
Many people divide plants in the spring or fall. Offer to help with the digging in exchange for the extras.

In Closing...

Beautifying your porch or garden does not have to be expensive. A little creativity and community connection can make it bloom for free.
