Read about our staffGreetings!

Anisa here, back with another dose of Thrifty Tips! How was your week? Mine was filled with exploring a simple yet powerful money-saving strategy I'm excited to share with you today.

Has this happened to you? You go to a store, or even just walking down the street, and BAM! Something catches your eye. That shiny new gadget promising to revolutionize your mornings, the must-have fashion piece that will totally complete your wardrobe, or that oh-so-tempting treat whispering your name from behind the bakery window. Our brains can be incredibly persuasive in those moments!

But before you reach for your wallet and give in to that immediate desire, I want to introduce you to a game-changing technique: The Magic of the 30-Day Rule.

Be Well,

The 30-Day Rule is Wonderfully Straightforward

Whenever you feel that strong urge to buy something that isn't a necessity (think those impulse buys, the "nice-to-haves," the "treat-yourself" moments that can sometimes go a little overboard), resist the urge to purchase it immediately.

Instead, make a note of it. Jot it down in your phone's notes app, scribble it on a sticky note, or even add it to a running "wish list" somewhere. Be specific – what is it, where did you see it, and how much does it cost?

Now comes the crucial part: Wait 30 days. Seriously. Put that item on your mental (or actual) shelf and don't revisit the thought of buying it until those 30 days have passed.

The Amazing Thing That Happens in 30 Days

Cheaper Than AmazonYou might be surprised by the magic that unfolds during that waiting period! Here's what often happens:

The Urgency Fades: That intense "must-have-it-now" feeling often evaporates as time goes by. What seemed so essential in the moment might feel much less important a few weeks later.

You Realize You Don't Actually Need It: With the emotional impulse gone, you can think more rationally about whether this item truly adds value to your life or if it was just a fleeting desire.

You Might Forget About It Entirely! This is the ultimate sign that it wasn't a genuine need. If it slips your mind, you definitely didn't need it that badly!

You Save Money: By delaying the purchase, you've given yourself the opportunity to not spend that money. Over time, these saved impulse buys can really add up!

You Experience Less Buyer's Remorse: If you do decide to buy it after 30 days, you'll likely feel more confident in your decision, knowing it wasn't just a spur-of-the-moment thing.

Give It a Try – You Might Surprise Yourself!

Honestly, this simple rule may be a game-changer in curbing those impulse purchases that used to leave you with a bit of a financial "oops" moment. It's not about depriving yourself entirely, but about creating a buffer between the initial desire and the actual purchase.

Your Thrifty Challenge:

Next time you feel that urge to buy something non-essential, I challenge you to put the 30-Day Rule into action. Make a note of it and see how you feel in a week, then two, and finally after 30 days. I'd love to hear about your experiences – did that "must-have" remain a must-have?
