Soak in Water Savings

Instead of frequent light watering, opt for one deep soak per week, about an inch of water total. This strengthens root growth and makes your lawn more drought-resistant. To measure, place an empty aluminum can in your yard and see how long it takes to fill an inch. For even bigger savings, water early in the morning to prevent evaporation.

Get Supplies for Less

Skip the pricey garden centers and check out farm supply stores instead! Many products are identical but come in different packaging. For example, expensive straw mulch at a nursery is often sold as livestock bedding at farm outlets, for a fraction of the cost.

Cut It Right

Think cutting your grass short saves time? It actually weakens roots and invites weeds! Follow the golden rule of mowing: never remove more than one-third of the grass blade at a time. Keep your lawn at a healthy 3 to 4 inches for stronger, greener results.

Feed Your Lawn Naturally

Give your grass a nutrient boost without expensive fertilizers. Leave grass clippings on the lawn after mowing, they break down quickly and return valuable nutrients to the soil. You can also use compost or organic lawn feed to promote healthy growth.
