Greetings!
Sunday's
article on how I cut out alot of my monthly expenses generated a whole lot of email and questions. I tried to respond to all of them but I was a bit overwhelmed.
I will get to all of your questions but because this generated so much interest I decided to elaborate on how I really came to do this and what I do every quarter.
Why do I do this? First off, companies that charge you automatically are sneaky and can increase rates without you knowing. They count on us not paying attention!
A quarterly bill review is a great way to cut unnecessary expenses and find savings. Below are some tips on how to do this and maximize your savings.

1. Gather All Your Bills
Collect utility bills, subscriptions, phone, internet, insurance, and any recurring payments.
2. Identify Unnecessary Expenses
Look for services you don’t use or need. Cancel unused subscriptions, downgrade plans, or switch to better deals.
3. Negotiate for Lower Rates
Call service providers and ask for discounts, promotions, or loyalty perks. Many companies offer better rates if you ask.
4. Compare Providers
Check if competitors offer better rates for cable, internet, or insurance. Switching providers or bundling services can save you money.
5. Look for Hidden Fees
Review each bill for unexpected fees or price hikes. Challenge any unclear or unjustified charges.
6. Adjust Usage Where Possible
For utilities, check peak-hour rates, unplug devices when not in use, and optimize your heating/cooling to reduce costs.
7. Use Cash-Back or Rewards Programs

Some bills can be paid with credit cards that offer cash-back or rewards. Another way is using a cash-back shopping site. One of my favorites which I talked about previously is
Be Frugal. Last year I earned over $200 for my normal shopping!
8. Set Up Alerts & Auto-Pay Discounts
Some companies offer discounts for automatic payments. Setting up reminders can also help avoid late fees.
9. Review Insurance Policies
Check if your car/home insurance rates have increased. You may find savings by bundling or adjusting coverage.
10. Track & Repeat
Review bills every quarter to catch price increases early and continue optimizing your expenses.
