Right now crdit card interest rates are high. The US government says the average is 20.15%!

If you are carrying credit card debt that means you are spending a whole lot extra in interest fees. On the flip side it also means there is a lot of money to besaved.

We have some ideas to save yourself hundreds or even thousands of dollars if you are carrying a large credit card balance.

Tip: Transfer Your Balance To A Lower Interest Card...

Use a lower-interest credit card to pay off higher-rate balances, but check for transfer fees and ensure you can repay or transfer again before the introductory rate expires.

Once you transfer the balance to the other card, DO NOT USE EITHER ONE AGAIN. You don't want to increase your debt. You might even consider destroying it!

Tip: Use Your Savings...

Consider using part of your savings to pay off consumer debt, if you can do so without using all of your available cash. With banks paying 4.5 percent or less on savings, and credit card debt carrying over 20 percent interest charges, you could come out way ahead.

Again the key to this is to not use the credit card you just paid off again.

POLL: Should Self-Driving Cars Be Mandatory?

I'm currently working from Arizona for the next couple of weeks and there is this service called Waymo. It is like Uber but driver-less!

The first time one pulled up next to me it was spooky. Now I'm used to seeing them.

Tip: Home Equity Loan...

Best Sell 5 StarIf you don't have enough savings to pay off your consumer debt, consider a home equity loan. Interest rates on home equity loans are much lower than most credit cards, so you win in two ways:

(1) You slash your interest costs, say from 20 percent on the credit card to 8.5 percent on the home equity loan

(2) You can deduct the home equity loan interest from your taxable income
