Stellantis Delays Launch of Ram 1500 Electric Pickup to Early 2025
The release of the 2025 Ram 1500 REV electric pickup has been postponed to the first half of 2025. Initially announced for late 2024, the new timeline reflects the automaker's commitment to quality and product validation, according to Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares.
"We are facing a very significant amount of workload," Tavares stated during a virtual press event on Tuesday. "We want to be very prudent in the way we validate the products, so we take our time."
The decision to delay was made to ensure the Ram 1500 REV meets high standards, Tavares explained, emphasizing the importance of avoiding mistakes by rushing the production process. "It's better to take a few weeks more to validate properly than to rush and then to make mistakes in terms of quality," he said. "That's what we are doing now."
Before completing the Ram 1500 REV, Stellantis plans to finalize two other major electric vehicle projects: the Dodge Charger Daytona and the Jeep Wagoneer S. Both models are expected to debut by the end of December 2024. Once these vehicles hit dealership showrooms, work on the electric Ram will be completed, Tavares confirmed.
When it arrives, the Ram 1500 REV is expected to deliver exceptional performance. Stellantis has announced that the truck will feature:
1. A towing capacity of up to 14,000 pounds.
2. A payload capability of up to 2,700 pounds.
3. A driving range of up to 500 miles on a single charge.
These capabilities will be supported by the STLA frame platform, which Stellantis is incorporating into all full-size, body-on-frame pickups and SUVs for North America and other markets. This advanced platform also allows vehicles to ford up to 24 inches of water, offers up to 10.3 inches of ground clearance, and accommodates designs up to 19.5 feet long and 7 feet wide with tires as large as 33 inches in diameter.
Stellantis has also developed electric drive modules for the Ram 1500 REV, enabling all-wheel drive with independent units mounted on the front and rear axles. Each module generates 250 kilowatts of power, contributing to the truck's impressive performance, including a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of just 4.4 seconds.
While the industry eagerly awaits the Ram 1500 REV, its cutting-edge features and capabilities won't be available until early 2025, ensuring Stellantis delivers a well-tested and reliable electric pickup.
