Biden Boasts Achievements and Cracks Jokes About Age

Amidst ongoing scrutiny following the release of a special counsel report, President Joe Biden injected humor into his speech at the National Association of Counties Legislative Conference on Monday, even jesting about his age.

"I know I don't look like it, but I've been around a while," Biden quipped, eliciting laughter from the audience.

After concluding his speech with a customary "thank you" and the band playing, Biden returned to the microphone, jokingly adding, "I forgot."

"One more thing, I forgot," he teased. "I forgot to mention New Castle County, Delaware," gesturing towards several tables before exiting the stage.

At 81 years old, Biden has faced criticism over the past few days over the special counsel's report, which, while opting not to prosecute him, described him as a "well-meaning elderly man with poor memory."

In response, Biden has vehemently defended himself, asserting during a news conference last Thursday, "I am well-meaning, and I'm an elderly man. And I know what the hell I'm doing... I don't need his recommendation."

Despite the controversy, Biden used much of his speech to highlight his administration's achievements.

"When I came into office, the pandemic was raging, and our economy was reeling," he recounted. "Counties nationwide faced devastating budget cuts. But we turned things around."

Biden emphasized the impact of the American Rescue Plan, which provided $350 billion to state and local governments, supporting initiatives such as hiring police officers and teachers. He also celebrated the passage of a landmark infrastructure investment bill, heralding it as a pivotal moment for the nation's development.

"We passed the most significant investment in our nation's infrastructure in generations," Biden declared, listing the diverse range of projects it encompassed.

Addressing economic concerns, Biden acknowledged persisting inflation issues, attributing them to "greedflation" and "shrinkflation." He called upon corporations to prioritize consumers and urged unity in tackling challenges.

Despite his administration's accomplishments, Biden did not shy away from addressing ongoing issues, including rising crime rates and the failure to secure a bipartisan deal on border security reforms. He criticized Republican opposition and emphasized the importance of collaboration.

"We're the United States of America," Biden asserted. "There is nothing beyond our capacity when we work together."

As Biden navigates criticism and scrutiny, his ability to inject humor into his speeches showcases his resilience and determination to address challenges head-on.
