'Vengeance': B.J. Novak investigates a murder for a podcast in trailer

B.J. Novak is on the case as he investigates a murder for a true crime podcast in the newly released trailer for Vengeance.

Novak stars as radio host Ben Manalowitz who travels from New York City to West Texas to investigate the death of Abilene, a woman he was hooking up with in the clip released on Monday.

Abilene's family mistakenly thinks Ben was her boyfriend and take him under their wing.

Abilene's brother Ty, played by Boyd Holbrock, thinks his sister was murdered instead of dying from an opioid overdose. Ben then agrees to help look into her death and produce a podcast with his findings along with his friend, played by Issa Rae.

Vengeance serves as Novak's directorial debut. The actor also penned the script.

Co-stars include Ashton Kutcher, J. Smith-Cameron and Dove Cameron. Vengeance comes to theaters on July 29.

Angela Lansbury to be honored at Tony Awards

Electronics 21Angela Lansbury will be honored at the 2022 Tony Awards.

The 96-year-old actress will receive the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement at the awards show in June.

Lansbury, a five-time Tony Award winner, made her Broadway debut in Hotel Paradiso in 1957. She has since starred in Mame, Dear World, Gypsy, Sweeney Todd, Blithe Spirit and other productions.

In addition, Lansbury is known for the films Gaslight, The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Manchurian Candidate and Beauty and the Beast, and for playing Jessica Fletcher on the CBS series Murder, She Wrote.

"Angela Lansbury's contributions to the stage are insurmountable," Broadway League president Charlotte St. Martin and American Theatre Wing president Heather Hitchens said in a press release.

"From her groundbreaking role in Mame to her iconic performances in Deuce and Sweeney Todd, and most recently in the revival of A Little Night Music, Ms. Lansbury has given us a lifetime of unforgettable performances, and it is a great honor to present her with the 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award," the pair added.

Ariana DeBose will host the Tony Awards, which will air June 12 at 8 p.m. EDT on CBS. The show will also be available to stream and watch on demand on Paramount+.

A Strange Loop, MJ, Paradise Square, Company, The Lehman Trilogy and Six: The Musical are among this year's nominees.

Vanessa Hudgens to host the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards

Vanessa Hudgens is set to host the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards on June 5.

"I'm back," Hudgens says in a video uploaded to the official MTV Movie & TV Awards Twitter account on Monday.

Hudgens had previously hosted the MTV Movie & TV Awards: Greatest of All Time special in 2020.

The ceremony is set to take place from the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica and will air at 8 p.m. EDT.

The MTV Movie & TV Awards will also present its reality television-focused Unscripted portion on the same night.

Spider-Man: No Way Home and Euphoria are leading the pack with seven nominations each. RuPaul's Drag Race earned a leading four nominations in the reality television categories.

'S.W.A.T.': Lina Esco exits CBS series after five seasons

S.W.A.T. is losing an original cast member.

Lina Esco, who played Christina "Chris" Alonso for five seasons, has exited the CBS action drama ahead of Season 6.

In the show, Chris (Esco) left S.W.A.T. to take over for Mama Pina at a local safe house for immigrant women.

Esco confirmed her departure Sunday, the same day as the Season 5 finale.

"bringing to life a strong, smart bi-sexual character like chris alonso has been both a pleasure and a powerful opportunity to increase visibility for diverse women everywhere. five years later - i am leaving SWAT to pursue new creative endeavors," the actress wrote on Instagram.

Esco is "excited" to embark on a new chapter but said leaving S.W.A.T. was "one of the most difficult decisions" she's had to make.

"i'm forever grateful to my SWAT family - my fellow cast, the crew, the writers, and the producers, - for an incredible journey," she wrote. "to the amazing SWAT fans, you are the heart of the show. i can't thank you enough for your support and for walking beside me through all of chris' journey!"

S.W.A.T. showrunners Shawn Ryan and Andy Dettmann celebrated Esco and her "important, iconic" character in a statement on Twitter.

"Lina rewarded us this season with thrilling performances as well as a terrific job directing an episode. What Lina brought to the show and what Chris represented to our audience are hard to replace. We'll miss Chris, but we'll especially miss Lina, as we wish her the best of luck with everything she chooses to do next," the pair said.

S.W.A.T. stars Shemar Moore, Alex Russell, Kenny Johnson, Jay Harrington and David Lim. The series was renewed for Season 6 in April.
