Bradley Cooper says Steven Spielberg hired him to helm 'Maestro'
Bradley Cooper recalled how Steven Spielberg picked him to direct upcoming Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro while appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Cooper told Colbert on Tuesday that he was obsessed with being a conductor of classical music and that Spielberg knew of his interest.
Spielberg then informed Cooper about Maestro and asked if he would play the lead role. Cooper responded that he wanted to direct after A Star is Born and asked if he could show Spielberg the film and then perhaps be chosen to helm Maestro.
"I'm showing him A Star is Born and he's all the way on the other side, in the front row. And it's the scene where Jackson calls Ally up on the stage, like the whole thing. It's the biggest scene in the movie," Cooper said before stating that Spielberg suddenly got up from his chair.
Cooper stated that he was convinced that Spielberg was going to the bathroom during his film's most important scene.
"He walks over, I'm putting my head down and the next thing I feel is his face. He said, and it's loud, 'You're [expletive] directing Maestro,' and then he sat back down and it was amazing," Cooper continued.
Maestro is heading to Netflix. Cooper will star as Bernstein in addition to directing, producing and co-writing the script. Bernstein is behind musical hits such as West Side Story, which Spielberg recently adapted.
'Final Destination 6': 'Spider-man' director Jon Watts joins as producer
Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts has joined New Line and HBO Max's upcoming horror sequel Final Destination 6 as a producer.
Watts, who also helmed 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming and 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home, also wrote the story and treatment for Final Destination 6.
Lori Evans Taylor (Bed Rest) and Guy Busick, who penned the new Scream that hits theaters on Friday, are writing the script based off of Watts' story and treatment.
Joining Watts on Final Destination 6 as a producer is his wife and manager Dianne McGunigle. Final Destination series producer Craig Perry is also producing along with Sheila Hanahan Taylor.
"Both Dianne and I have been massive fans of Final Destination from the very beginning. So to be able to have a hand in crafting a new story with the original team and New Line is going to be both fun and exciting," Watts said in a statement.
Final Destination 6 will be released as an HBO Max original. Final Destination 5 was released in 2011. The horror series follows a group of characters who die in unique ways after they initially escape death.
Watts' Spider-Man: No Way Home, starring Tom Holland as the Marvel hero, was the No. 1 film at the North American box office for a fourth weekend in a row, taking in $33 million. The film has already passed $1 billion worldwide.
Simon Cowell proposes to longtime girlfriend Lauren Silverman
Simon Cowell and Lauren Silverman are engaged.
The couple got engaged on Christmas Eve in Barbados, where they first met.
Cowell, 62, proposed to Silverman, 44, as they were walking on the beach together.
The wedding took place during a family vacation with their 7-year-old son Eric and Silverman's 16-year-old son Adam.
The couple welcomed their son Eric in February 2014.
Powell hinted that he would marry Silverman back in 2013 while she was pregnant.
They announced her pregnancy before Silverman was officially divorced from Cowell's friend Andrew Silverman, with whom she has a son.
Cowell expressed his regrets about having an affair with Silverman while she remained married to his best friend but accepted the criticism that came along with it.
