Greetings fellow Bizarros:

A group that says its mission is "to halt and push back the forces of darkness" is holding a tactical event in southwest Missouri this weekend to train Christians in "hand-to-hand combat" and "fighting from your vehicle."

Called the Missouri Embattled Warriors Event, the gathering is reminiscent of the militia exercises and preparedness training that spread across the country in the 1990s.

"We're a group of Christian men and women that go out and will stand against unrighteousness," said Kevin VanStory, a real estate broker and a leader of the Salt and Light Brigade, which includes Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma.

"This will be an intensive study about self defense. What happens if you were driving on I-70 last year when all those riots were taking place in Kansas City and St. Louis? It's about time that Christians start going on the offense - at least stop being always on the defense."

The Salt and Light Brigade is part of Pass the Salt Ministries, a nonprofit based in Hebron, Ohio. The organization says on its website the training is designed for "Brigade members/Christians understanding the times in which we live" and for "Christians willing to learn tactical skills, preparedness skills & fighting skills."

Bizarrely,
Lewis

Netherlands woman named world's tallest bodybuilder

An athlete from the Netherlands who stands at 5 feet, 11.92 inches has been declared the tallest female bodybuilder in the world by Guinness World Records. Maria Wattel, 41, said her friend, Olivier Richters, suggested she apply for the Guinness World Record after he was verified as the tallest male bodybuilder in the world by the record-keeping organization. Wattel said she began bodybuilding at age 19 and started to compete in March 2005. She said competing posed a challenge because organizers had difficulty placing her in categories due to her height. Wattel said she considers the world record to be "a little crown" on her bodybuilding career. "To be recognized by Guinness World Records was a big surprise, but it's a very good surprise. Being tall and female and working as a bodybuilder is immensely hard and tough," she said.

Teenagers split lottery win

Teenage friends Wyatt Close and Brandon Thompson of Carthage, Tenn., split a scratch-off lottery ticket together and won $3 million. The 19-year-old friends were riding to work together recently and stopped at a QuickTrip store where they bought the lottery tickets. Close chose two Jumbo Bucks Titanium instant tickets after he game he wanted wasn't available. The first ticket was a non-winner, but the second earned the duo $3 million. "I saw those black bold numbers and just started jumping," Close said in a statement. "I thought he was going to jump through the roof of the van," Thompson said. Close and Thompson will be splitting the winnings and said they will both save, invest and build a new home.
