Salma Hayek was 'shocked' to land Marvel's 'Eternals' role

Salma Hayek says she was "shocked" to land her role in the new film Eternals.

The 54-year-old actress discussed playing Ajak in the upcoming Marvel movie during Tuesday's episode of The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.

Ajak is a Marvel Comics character who is the leader of the Eternals, a race of long-lived humans with superpowers, in the new film.

When asked if she felt prepared for the part due to her past roles in action films, Hayek said she was surprised by her casting.

"I was shocked. Can you imagine? You get a superhero character in your fifties? Mexican. Woman. In your fifties? I couldn't believe it," she said.

Hayek then shared her "most exciting moment" from filming the movie.

"It was very unexpected, because there are superhero moments, but the coolest one was galloping in a meadow with a horse. And that's when I thought to myself, 'Not only I'm doing a Marvel superhero movie, but I'm doing, like, a really different, cool one,'" she said.

Eternals is directed by Chloé Zhao and co-stars Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Kit Harington and Angelina Jolie.

Marvel released a first teaser trailer for the film in May that gives a brief backstory on the Eternals.

Eternals opens in theaters Nov. 5.

On The Tonight Show, Hayek also played The Whisper Challenge, a game where she and host Jimmy Fallon took turns wearing headphones with loud music playing and tried to guess what the other was saying.

Hayek stars in the new film The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard with Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson.

Judge approves Harvey Weinstein extradition to LA on sexual assault charges

CC LiquidationsA New York judge on Tuesday ordered Harvey Weinstein to be extradited to Los Angeles to face sexual assault charges.

Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case denied a motion by Weinstein's attorney to delay his extradition and local prosecutors said the Los Angeles District Attorney's office plans to transport Weinstein sometime by mid-July.

Weinstein's attorney, Norman Effman, said he plans to appeal the order.

He added that Weinstein is not trying to avoid trial and said Los Angeles County could conduct a virtual arraignment.

"If LA wants jurisdiction to commence proceedings, fine," Effman said.

The former movie producer is serving a 23-year prison sentence at Wende Correctional Facility, a maximum-security prison near Buffalo, N.Y., after he was found guilty of first-degree criminal sexual act and third-degree rape last year.

He also faces 11 counts of sexual assault in Los Angeles, including four counts of forcible rape, four counts of forcible oral copulation, two counts of sexual battery by restraint and one count of sexual penetration by use of force.

Effman had challenged the transfer to Los Angeles to face those charges, citing Weinstein's health.

"The reason he's at Wende is it's the regional medical center," he said. "He's in the middle of treatment right now."

Erie County Assistant District Attorney Colleen Gable, however, countered that Los Angeles County had met the requirements for the transfer and Weinstein's health could be attended to in Los Angeles.

"It's Los Angeles -- it's not some remote outpost that doesn't have medical care," Gable said.
