'The Tomorrow War,' starring Chris Pratt, coming to Amazon in July

As Seen TV BSThe Tomorrow War, a new film starring Chris Pratt, is coming to Amazon Prime Video in July.

Amazon announced Wednesday that it acquired the sci-fi film, which will premiere July 2 on Amazon Prime Video.

Pratt, 41, promoted the movie in an accompanying video.

"It's got aliens. It's got people traveling to the future to fight against aliens. It's got me in it, and it's got aliens!" he said of the film. "Let me just tell you, you ain't ready. This film is so sick."

The Tomorrow War is written by Zach Dean and directed by Chris McKay. The movie takes place in a world where a group of time travelers from the year 2051 return to warn humans about a global war with aliens.

Pratt plays Dan Forester, a high school teacher and father who is recruited to be transported to the future to join the fight. Yvonne Strahovski co-stars as a scientist, while J.K. Simmons portrays Dan's (Pratt) estranged father.

"The Tomorrow War will be a global event that will surprise and delight our customers around the world," Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke said in a statement. McKay previously directed The Lego Batman Movie. Pratt is known for playing Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation and Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

CBS cancels 'MacGyver' reboot after five seasons

CBS has canceled its MacGyver reboot starring Lucas Till in the title role after five seasons.

MacGyver will end with its currently ongoing fifth season. The series finale will air on April 30.

The series, which was launched in 2016, is based on the original MacGyver starring Richard Dean Anderson, which aired for seven seasons from 1985 to 1992.

Tristin Mays, Justin Hires, Meredith Eaton, Levy Tran and Henry Ian Cusick also starred in the reboot. Till's Angus MacGyver is a resourceful hero who works for a clandestine organization within the U.S. government.

"All of us at CBS are extremely grateful for the incredible work and dedication from Lucas and the rest of the cast, as well as Monica, the writers and the entire crew," Kelly Kahl, president CBS Entertainment said in a statement while mentioning showrunner Monica Macer.

"The MacGyver team traveled far and wide to repeatedly save the the world with little more than bubble gum and a paper clip and made this show distinctly their own. We're gratified we get to give this dedicated and loyal fan base the opportunity to say goodbye to their favorite characters in the thoughtful manner this series deserves," Kahl continued.

Macer became showrunner after creator Peter Lenkov was fired by CBS Television Studios in July, following allegations that he created a toxic work environment.

Till commented on the show ending on Instagram.

"The past five years have been what I will look on later as THE most formative years of my life. Lots of tough, lots of love. I made life long friends, actually no, family. I learned to push myself to new limits, breaking through and through and through," the actor said.

"Was nervous to take up the mantle of an icon and you guys allowed me into your homes and accepted me. I'm like the Roger Moore of MacGyvers now," Till continued.

'Mystery Science Theater 3000' launches Kickstarter to fund new season

Joel Hodgson, creator of Mystery Science Theater 3000, launched a Kickstarter Wednesday to fund new episodes of the show. The first goal is $2 million which would pay for three new episodes.

"It doesn't make sense for a network to decide the show's fate after each season," Hodgson said in a statement. "That should be up to the people we're making the show for."

Mystery Science Theater 3000 features a human host and robot sidekicks watching a bad movie, making wisecracks along the way. The show ran for 11 seasons on Comedy Central with hosts Hodgson and Michael J. Nelson.

A feature film was released in 1996. Two new seasons, featuring Jonah Ray as host and Felicia Day and Patton Oswalt as villains, aired on Netflix in 2017 and 2018.

A Kickstarter campaign initially funded the Netflix revival, but Netflix canceled the show after its second season. In addition to new episodes, Hodgson said reaching the $2 million goal would also fund "The Gizmoplex," an online theater where Hodgson and MST3K talent can host live events.

If the campaign reaches $3.3 million, Hodgson said they can produce six episodes and a Gizmoplex app for mobile devices. Each additional $1.1 million would generate three more episodes.

Hodgson added that he plans to release episodes as they are completed rather than wait to assemble an entire season. Hodgson did not announce cast or whether Ray, Day and Oswalt would return.

The campaign is live at MakeMoreMST3K.com.
