Gun News
A newly elected Colorado Republican requested that Capitol Police allow her to carry her gun in the Capitol, The Associated Press reported.
Republican Lauren Boebert, 33, was elected this month from a conservative western Colorado district after gaining notice as a brash pro-gun activist who straps a Glock pistol to her hip. In an upset last June, she defeated five-term Rep. Scott Tipton for the GOP nomination, in part by claiming he wasn't an ardent enough backer of President Donald Trump.
The firearms-toting congresswoman-elect who owns a gun-themed restaurant in Rifle, Colorado, could join an unknown number of lawmakers who also carry firearms in the Capitol, which is permitted under congressional regulations.
The practice is allowed for lawmakers, with some limitations, under decades-old congressional regulations. The public is barred from carrying weapons in the Capitol, its grounds and office buildings.
According to a 1967 regulation, federal and D.C. laws cannot "prohibit any Member of Congress from maintaining firearms within the confines of his office" or "from transporting within Capitol grounds firearms unloaded and securely wrapped."
Boebert asked Capitol Police officials about carrying her weapon when she and other House freshmen were in town recently for orientation programs, according to two congressional officials.
"Our Constitutional right to bear arms exists even in places that reject this fundamental principle," she said.

Did You Know
The Largest Gun in History
We know firearms come in all shapes and sizes. There are guns small enough to fit in our pockets and so big they're mounted on battleships. There is only one gun, though, that takes the title for the biggest, specifically "the largest caliber rifled weapon to see combat in the history of artillery." It was called the Schwerer Gustav, and it was built by the Nazis for use during World War II. This massive artillery piece was moved and fired from railroads and weighed 1,350 tons.
The Gustav might look impractical, but it was actually pretty functional. In fact, this gun could hit a target 39 kilometers (24 mi) away. Bigger may not always be better, but in this case, the Schwerer Gustav is pretty impressive.
