'The Expanse': Amazon renews series for sixth and final season

Sci-fi series The Expanse will return for a sixth and final season.

Amazon Prime Video confirmed on The Expanse official Twitter account Tuesday that the show has been renewed for Season 6 ahead of its Season 5 premiere.

"'You can't stop the work,'" the post reads. "Season 6 is a go."

The Expanse is based on the Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck book series of the same name, which is set in a future where humans have colonized the solar system. The TV adaptation is developed by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby.

"From the moment we committed to bringing this show to life up until this final season, we have worked tirelessly to honor the vision of the writers. We have prided ourselves on having one of the most diverse casts on television and giving a platform to stories that matter," executive producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson said in a statement.

"The dedication and artistry of everyone who helps bring The Expanse to the screen is incredible. Our fans are awesome, and we cannot wait to get rolling on Season 6, " showrunner Naren Shankar added.

The Expanse stars Steven Strait, Dominique Tipper and Wes Chatham. Cas Anvar, who plays Alex Kamal, will not return in Season 6 following an investigation into multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.

Deadline said Season 6 is tentatively scheduled to begin production Jan. 20.

The Expanse premiered in 2015 and aired its first three seasons on Syfy. The series moved to Amazon Prime Video in Season 4 and will premiere its fifth season Dec. 16.

'Empire' alum Gabourey Sidibe is engaged

GobbleEmpire alum Gabourey Sidibe is engaged to be married.

The 37-year-old actress took to Instagram Tuesday after her boyfriend, Brandon Frankel, proposed.

Sidibe showed off her engagement ring in a video featuring her and Frankel. Sidibe called Frankel her "BFF," or best friend forever, in the caption.

"It's weird that people think we're already married but I guess our hearts and intentions for each other are just that clear to see. My BFF proposed and now I get to hold him forever," she wrote.

Sidibe praised Frankel as the funniest man she's ever met and the "sweetest human to exist."

"@brandontour made up a song for when i put my bonnet on at night. The second I look a bit stressed and overwhelmed, he jumps into action and take over what he can for me. Every moment with him is a joy," Sidibe wrote.

"He is the partner i thought I was too independent to need. I've learned so much about myself through him and I feel grateful and excited to learn more about the entire world with him by my side," she said. "My partner, my best friend, my cats' daddy, my mans, my heart, my fiancé!!!"

Frankel confirmed the news in a post on his own account.

"I asked my best friend to marry me, and she said 'YES'! So excited to spend the rest of my life with the most amazing, hilarious, beautiful, and inspiring woman I've ever known," Frankel said.

"I couldn't imagine a life without you," he told Sidibe. "We make the best team, and we make everything fun and memorable. I liked it, so I put a [ring] on it. Love you to the moon and back @gabby3shabby."

Real Housewives of Potomac star Garcelle Beauvais, singer Janelle Monáe and actress Nicole Ari Parker were among those to congratulate the couple in the comments.

"My favs!!!!! Congrats my loves!!!!" Monáe wrote.

Sidibe and Frankel made their relationship Instagram official in 2019.

Sidibe is known for the film Precious and has since starred on The Big C and in several seasons of American Horror Story. She played Becky Williams on the Fox series Empire.

'One Day At a Time' canceled at ViacomCBS

One Day at a Time has been canceled at ViacomCBS after the former Netflix series aired a shortened fourth season on Pop TV.

Pop TV picked up the series about three generations of a Cuban-American family living together in June 2019 after Netflix canceled it following three seasons.

Pop TV has since moved away from scripted programming following the conclusion of Schitt's Creek. One Day at a Time's fourth season was simulcast on TV Land and also appeared on CBS.

Rita Moreno, Justina Machado, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz, Todd Grinnell, Sheridan Pierce and Stephen Tobolowsky starred on the show, which was a remake of the CBS series of the same name from writer-producer Norman Lear that aired from 1975 to 1984.

One Day at a Time's fourth season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. An animated episode, which now serves as the final installment, aired in June.

Sony Pictures Television is shopping to find the series a new home.

"Much has changed at Viacom in the last year and unfortunately we won't be on Pop anymore. Thanks to everybody over there for the opportunity to do Season 4. And guess what? We're still trying for Season 5. What if #ODAAT was the first show ever on 3 networks?" co-showrunner Mike Royce said on Twitter Tuesday.

"I'm not sad just yet, y'all. We still have some hope for new homes. Hang tight my loves. You know that if I go down, I will go down swinging for this show (& cast & crew) I love," co-showrunner Gloria Calderón Kellett said on Twitter Tuesday.

Kristen Stewart feels 'protective' of Princess Diana after landing role

Kristen Stewart says she feels "protective" of Princess Diana after playing the late British royal in a new film.

The 30-year-old actress discussed her role as Diana in the movie Spencer during Tuesday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Stewart said she embraces the pressure that comes with portraying a beloved icon.

"It makes me stand at attention in the best way," the star said.

"I feel sort of the same way about her, and it happened really quickly," she added. "I didn't grow up with her in the same way. I was really young when she passed away. I remember the flowers ... I was really young, didn't really know what was going on."

Stewart said she's come to feel protective of Diana, who died in a car crash at age 36 in August 1997.

"It's hard not to feel protective of her. She was so young," she said. "Everyone's perspective is different, and there's no way to get anything right because what is fact in relation to personal experience?"

Stewart will play Diana, born Diana Spencer, in Spencer, which takes place over a holiday weekend in the early 1990s when Diana decided to leave her marriage to Prince Charles.

"My movie takes place over three days," Stewart said. "It's this really poetic internal imagining of what that might have felt like, rather than giving new information. So we kind of don't have a mark to hit; we just also love her."

Stewart confirmed she's preparing for the role by watching videos of Diana and listening recordings of Diana's voice.

"I fall asleep with that in my head," she said.

Stewart also stars in the new film Happiest Season, which premieres Wednesday on Hulu. The movie is a holiday romantic comedy starring Stewart as Abby, a young woman planning to propose to her girlfriend (Mackenzie Davis) during the holidays.
