Zachary Levi to play NFL's Kurt Warner in new film

Zachary Levi will play retired football star Kurt Warner in a new film.

Lionsgate confirmed Wednesday that Levi, 39, will portray Warner, 49, in the movie American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story.

"Put him in coach. @ZacharyLevi to star as NFL Hall of Famer @kurt13warner in our new movie, American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story," the studio tweeted.

Warner started his career in the NFL in 1998 and played for the St. Louis Rams, New York Giants and Arizona Cardinals over the next 10 years. He was a two-time NFL MVP, Super Bowl MVP and Hall of Fame quarterback.

American Underdog is directed and produced by brothers Jon and Andrew Erwin. The film is based on interviews with Warner and his memoir, All Things Possible: My Story of Faith, Football, and the First Miracle Season.

"Kurt's story is one of relentless faith -- in his own abilities but even more so in a higher power," Levi said in a statement. "When I read Kurt's story, I identified with the quiet strength he found to persevere -- that's something I think anybody can recognize in their own lives."

"This is the kind of underdog story that sports movies are all about, and the fact that it's true makes it even more special," he added. "I'm thrilled to be part of bringing his story to audiences."

Jon Erwin, David Aaron Cohen and John Gunn wrote the film, which is expected to begin production later this year. The film hails from Lionsgate and Kingdom Story.

Levi is known for playing Chuck Bartowski on the NBC series Chuck and the title character in the DC Extended Universe film Shazam!.

'The Old Guard': Charlize Theron plays immortal warrior in new trailer

Video ThumbnailNetflix is giving a glimpse of the new film The Old Guard.

The streaming service shared a trailer for the movie Thursday featuring Charlize Theron as Andromache of Scythia, aka Andy, a centuries-old immortal warrior able to heal from any wound.

The preview shows Andy take Nile (Kiki Lanye), a new immortal, under her wing and introduce her to her group of immortal mercenaries.

"We've fought thousands of battles side by side," one of the members tells Nile.

Andy explains how they will eventually die.

"Nothing that lives lives forever. One day your wounds just don't heal up anymore. We don't know when," she says.

Andy, Nile and the group must band together after their abilities are exposed and they face a new threat.

The Old Guard is based on the Greg Rucka comic book. The film is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball) and co-stars Matthias Schoenaerts as Booker, Marwan Kenzari as Joe and Luca Marinelli as Nicky.

Netflix previously shared a poster for The Old Guard in May.

The Old Guard premieres July 10.

'Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe' to premiere Aug. 28 on Disney+

Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe is coming to Disney+ in August.

The streaming service announced in a press release Friday that the animated film will premiere Aug. 28. The movie's soundtrack will be released the same day.

Candace Against the Universe is based on the Disney Channel series Phineas and Ferb. The film follows stepbrothers Phineas and Ferb as they travel the galaxy to rescue their sister, Candace, after she is abducted by aliens.

The movie is executive produced by Phineas and Ferb creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh. Several original stars will return to voice their characters, including Vincent Martella as Phineas, Ashley Tisdale as Candace, Caroline Rhea as Linda, Dee Bradley Baker as Perry the Platypus and Alyson Stoner as Isabella.

David Errigo, Jr., will replace Thomas Sangster as the voice of Ferb. Other newcomers include Ali Wong as Super Super Big Doctor, Wayne Brady as Stapler Fist, Diedrich Bader as Borthos and Thomas Middleditch as Garnoz.
