'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' cast donates $100K to National Bail Fund Network

Brooklyn Nine-Nine's co-creator and cast have donated $100,000 to the National Bail Fund Network.

Series co-creator Dan Goor, star Stephanie Beatriz and other cast members gave to the fund, made up of over 60 community bail and bond funds across the country, Tuesday following George Floyd's death.

Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, died last week in Minneapolis, Minn., while being restrained by a police officer who knelt on his neck. Goor said Tuesday on Twitter that he and the cast "condemn" Floyd's death.

"The cast and showrunner of Brooklyn 99 condemn the murder of George Floyd and support the many people who are protesting police brutality nationally. Together we have made a $100,000 donation to The National Bail Fund Network," the writer and producer wrote.

"We encourage your to look up your local bail fund: the National Bail Fund Network is an organization that can lead you to them," he added. "#blacklivesmatter."

Beatriz, who plays Det. Rosa Diaz on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, shared the receipt for her $11,000 contribution and encouraged people to also give.

"I'm an actor who plays a detective on tv. If you currently play a cop? If you make tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in residuals from playing a cop? I'll let you do the math. (Thanks @GriffLightning for leading the way)," she wrote, referencing Blue Bloods guest star Griffin Newman.

Newman, who played Sam Johnson on Blue Bloods, donated $10,000 to Community Justice Exchange, which runs the National Bail Fund Network, on Monday.

"I'm an out-of-work actor who (improbably) played a detective on two episodes of BLUE BLOODS almost a decade ago," he tweeted. "If you currently play a cop? If you make tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in residuals from playing a cop? I'll let you do the math."

Brooklyn Nine-Nine follows a team of detectives in Brooklyn's fictional 99th precinct. The series co-stars Andy Samberg, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio and Andre Braugher.

'Batwoman' to cast new lead character after Ruby Rose exit

The CW's Batwoman will be featuring a new lead character that is not Kate Kane following the departure of star Ruby Rose.

Rose portrayed Kate, a cousin of Bruce Wayne, who dons the cape and cowl as Batwoman during the show's first season.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that a new lead character will be created who will become Batwoman.

The show will introduce Ryan Wilder, an out lesbian who is described as messy, goofy and untamed," Entertainment Weekly reported, citing a casting notice. Ryan is a former drug-runner who is now reformed and lives in a van.

Rose announced in May that she would not be returning to Batwoman following Season 1. Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions said that they would recast another LGBTQ actress to take on the role of Batwoman.

"It wasn't an easy decision but those who know, know," Rose said recently about her exit.

"I have stayed silent because that's my choice for now but know I adore you all. I'm sure next season will be amazing also. Xxx *hangs up cowl and cape," she continued.

Lea Michele apologizes to 'Glee' co-star for 'any pain' caused

Lea Michele says she's "very sorry" for "any pain" she caused her former Glee co-stars.

The 33-year-old actress spoke out Wednesday on Instagram after Samantha Marie Ware accused her of making the show's set "a living hell."

Ware called out Michele Monday on Twitter after Michele tweeted about George Floyd's death and used the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter. Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, died last week in Minneapolis, Minn., while being restrained by a police officer who knelt on his neck.

"LMAO REMEMBER WHEN YOU MADE MY FIRST TELEVISION GIG A LIVING HELL?!?! CAUSE ILL NEVER FORGET," Ware wrote in response to Michele's post.

"I BELIEVE YOU TOLD EVERYONE THAT IF TOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY YOU WOULD '[EXPLETIVE] IN MY WIG!' AMONST OTHER TRAUMATIC MICROAGGRESSIONS THAT MADE ME QUESTION A CAREER IN HOLLYWOOD," she added.

Without naming Ware, Michele said Tuesday that her tweet was meant to be a "show of support" for people of color. She said responses to her post caused her to reflect on how her "behavior towards fellow cast members was perceived by them."

"While I don't remember ever making this specific statement and I have never judged others by their background or color of their skin, that's not really the point, what matters is that I clearly acted in ways which hurt other people," Michele said.

"Whether it was my privileged position and perspective that caused me to be perceived as insensitive or inappropriate at times or whether it was just my immaturity and me just being unnecessarily difficult, I apologize for my behavior and for any pain which I have caused," she added.

Michele said she's reflected on her own "shortcomings" over the past few months. The actress, who is pregnant with her first child, said she will keep working to better herself and take responsibility for her actions in order to be a "real role model" for her future child.

"I listened to these criticisms and I am learning and while I am very sorry, I will be better in the future from this experience," she said.

Michele played Rachel Berry on Glee throughout its six-season run on Fox. She announced in April that she is expecting with her husband, Zandy Reich, and shared a baby bump photo in May.

Richard Schiff says 'West Wing' cast reunion, script reading is in the works

Richard Schiff said on Twitter that he and his former The West Wing cast-mates are planning a reunion and script reading.

Asked on the social media platform if his new show The Good Doctor is "anti-racist" and supports the Black Lives Matter organization, Schiff replied: "To answer you simply, you have to be the judge of that. Is the show diverse? Yes. Does it hire fairly and with diversity? Yes. As far as I know. Does it depict the kind of justice you want to see? I don't know. I don't watch."

Another Twitter follower suggested he and his co-stars follow the example the cast of Brooklyn Nine Nine set by donating $100,000 to the National Bail Fund Network.

The group aids people arrested while protesting police brutality in the wake of George Floyd's death, which was allegedly caused by a Minneapolis police officer.

"I am working with my cast mates from The West Wing for these purposes. Including a cast reunion and reading coming soon. Good for Brooklyn 99. I hope it makes a difference," Schiff tweeted.

The West Wing was created by Aaron Sorkin and followed the White House staff during two terms of fictional, idealistic, Democrat President Jed Bartlett. Starring Martin Sheen, Bradley Whitford, Rob Lowe, Allison Janney and Dule Hill, the show aired 1999 to 2006.
