Dwayne Johnson thanks fans for support after dad Rocky's death

Film star and former pro wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson took to social media Sunday to thank well-wishers for their support in the days following his dad Rocky's death.

"Hard to express how deeply grateful I am for all your love, mana & support My family and I thank you. Go hug your loved ones hard, while you still can. I love you. DJ #ripsoulman," Johnson posted alongside an outdoor Instagram video of him expressing similar sentiments.

"You have lifted my spirits," he told his fans in the 8-minute clip, which has already gotten nearly 8 million views.

"As you know, I lost my old man a few days ago. I lost him just like that," Johnson said, snapping his fingers. "I didn't get to say goodbye to him. I would give anything right now to give him a big, old hug and a big old kiss before he crossed over and say, 'Thank you and I love you and I respect you.'"

Rocky Johnson, a WWE Hall of Fame wrestler, died at age 75 on Wednesday.

Rocky's son said in the video -- which is also on Facebook -- that he suffered a blood clot that resulted in a heart attack.

The actor added he was comforted by doctors' assurance that Rocky died quickly and didn't suffer.

LOOSE LIPS:

"Honestly, the real tragedy of this whole thing is that no one is talking about how terrible that dress was. That's why he went home. I would not wear that dress to any dinner."

Luke Evans to star in ITV's 'Pembrokeshire Murders' miniseries

Beauty and the Beast and The Alienist actor Luke Evans has signed up to star in ITV's miniseries, The Pembrokeshire Murders.

The three-part thriller was written by Nick Stevens, based on the true-crime book, Catching the Bullseye Killer by Steve Wilkins and Jonathan Hill.

Director Marc Evans is expected to start filming the project this month.

Evans will play Wilkins, a police detective in Wales who, in 2006, reopened several cold cases from the 1980s and tried to catch a serial killer using modern forensic technology.

"It is a privilege to be playing the role of Steve Wilkins in The Pembrokeshire Murders and working again with [producer] Simon Heath, his team at World Productions and ITV. It's a huge responsibility for me as the drama depicts a true crime, which to this day still affects the families of those whose lives were tragically taken," Evans said in a news release.

The cast will also include Keith Allen, Owen Teale, Alexandria Riley, Caroline Berry, Oliver Ryan and David Fynn.

Which actor called Heath Ledger his favorite actor in SAG acceptance speech?

Joker star Joaquin Phoenix honored his late friend Heath Ledger as he accepted his Best Actor in a Film statuette at the Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony in Los Angeles.

Phoenix, 45, won the prize for playing a new take on the Joker, the villain Ledger memorably portrayed in 2008's The Dark Knight. Phoenix also won a Golden Globe and Critics' Choice Award for his performance this season.

Ledger won an Oscar for the role in 2009, more than a year after he died of a drug overdose at age 28.

"I am standing here on the shoulders of my favorite actor, Heath Ledger," Phoenix said Sunday.

He also paid tribute to his fellow nominee, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

"Leo, you've been an inspiration for over 25 years to me and so many people. I thank you very, very much," Phoenix said, acknowledging he has lost many parts to DiCaprio, 45, throughout his career.
