Hey Everyone!

Today's tip is a great idea for broccoli stalks. I use to throw them out because they were tough; but this is a good tip especially for soups and sauces. They're so costly why throw them away?

And you'll ALWAYS be ready to make broccoli-cheese soup!

Throw away your chopping board...

Hint 1: Use All That You Buy

When you buy fresh broccoli, don't throw away the stalks after eating the flowerettes. There are lots of nutrients in them and after all, you did pay good money for them. Chop the stalks in your food processor and then freeze for later use when making broccoli/cheese soup...OR a good sharp knife to slice the peeled stalks into thin circles to use in casseroles or in stir-fry recipes.

Hint 2: Freezing Food for Later

To save money, buy a large amount of store brand cheese (shredded or block) and freeze it in individual small freezer bags in 2 or 4 cup amounts. Cheese and butter are two dairy products whose properties won't change as a result of freezing.

'Go Green' Hint: Let the sun shine in.

For a healthier home, just pull back the curtains. Ultraviolet light in sunlight is a natural disinfectant that slashes the number of bacteria lurking on surfaces by about half. Plus, a sunnier indoor space lowers stress!

To alleviate dust mite allergies, open your windows for a few minutes each day. Mites survive by adsorbing water from the air. Fresh fall air lowers humidity inside your home, which helps kill the critters. Plus, airing out your home lowers carbon dioxide levels, helping you fall asleep faster.
