The Hollywood Reporter reported the casting news.

Writer-director Christopher McQuarrie teased the development with an Instagram post on Friday.

"Should you choose to accept..." McQuarrie captioned a photo of Atwell, which was placed on a dossier with the words "Impossible Mission" written on it.

The seventh movie in the series is to open on July 23, 2021.

Atwell played Agent Peggy Carter in the Avengers and Captain America movies, as well as the TV shows Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter. Her other credits include Howards End, The Pillars of the Earth and Christopher Robin.

Netflix confirms Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher in 'The Crown'

Gillian Anderson will play former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the upcoming third season of The Crown, Netflix announced Saturday.

The American actor is joining the all-new cast of the series, which tells the story of the royal family over the course of decades.

"I am so excited to be joining the cast and crew of The Crown and to have the opportunity to portray such a complicated and controversial woman," Anderson said. "Thatcher was undoubtedly formidable but I am relishing exploring beneath the surface and, dare I say, falling in love with the icon who, whether loved or despised, defined an era."

The third season of the series debuts a whole new cast of actors -- Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret and Ben Daniels as Lord Snowdon. They replace actors who played younger versions of the same characters in Seasons 1 and 2 -- Claire Foy, Matt Smith, Vanessa Kirby and Matthew Goode.

Season 3 begins in 1964 and will cover such events as the rise of the Beatles and England winning the 1966 World Cup.

The third season debuts Nov. 17.

"This is my biggest fear. A photo of me in a bikini unedited. And guess what, it's CELLULIT!!!! I'm just literally sooooo tired of being ashamed of my body, editing it ... This is what I got. I want this new chapter in my life to be about being authentic to who I am rather than trying to meet someone else's standards."

Which Men in Black star is reteaming with 'Legend, Robot' writer for 'Brilliance'?

Actor/producer Will Smith and writer/producer Akiva Goldsman are re-teaming to adapt the book Brilliance, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Sakey. Goldsman wrote and produced Smith's I Am Legend, wrote I, Robot and produced Hancock. Smith appeared in Goldsman's directorial debut feature Winter's Tale.

In Marcus Sakey's novel, 1% of children have special powers. The government calls them "Brilliants" and tracks them. The other 99% simply call them "twists" or "abnorms" as a form of hate speech.

Smith would play federal agent Nick Cooper, according to Deadline. Cooper hunts evil abnorms, but he is an abnorm himself able to predict the future and adapt accordingly. Cooper hunts assassin John Smith and begins to question whether he's on the right side.

Previously, when Legendary Pictures was developing Brilliance for Universal, Smith was attached and dropped out. At the time, Smith chose to film Concussion. Apparently Smith never lost interest, as he signed on to the Paramount package.

Sakey has already written two sequel novels while Brilliance was in development, making the film a potential trilogy too. Goldsman won an Oscar for writing A Beautiful Mind.

Smith had a hit this summer with Disney's live-action Aladdin. He next appears in Paramount's Gemini Man and the Sony sequel Bad Boys For Life. He also provides a voice for the animated film Spies in Disguise.
