Hi All!

"You don't have to be a four-star chef to eat like a gourmet"
----------------------------------------------------------

Like the corn on the cob recipe for the grill there are just certain recipes I look forward to just this time of year for. There are no unwritten rules of course like there are for dress code (like ever heard you shouldn't wear white until Memorial Day and not after Labor Day?) I wear white whenever I want and cookout all year long but some stuff is just tastes better in the Summer. Here's an example of what I'm talking about...some fresh OVERNIGHT FRESH LEMONADE made with real lemons folks and there isn't anything quite like it.

Enjoy!

OVERNIGHT FRESH LEMONADE

Gadgets2INGREDIENTS:
6 large lemons
1 cup granulated sugar (more to taste)
5 cups boiling water
2 empty gallon milk or water containers (cleaned)

DIRECTIONS:
First scrub the lemons in warm water, then zest 3 of
the outer lemon rinds using a potato peeler or zester.
After that any white pith will need to be pared from
the strips of zest with a sharp knife (to prevent the
lemonade tasting bitter). Now put the zest in a large
bowl and add the squeezed juice of all the lemons and
the sugar. Pour in boiling water and then stir well.
Cover and leave overnight in a cool place. Next day
stir again and taste to check the sweetness, adding a
little more sugar if it needs it. Now strain into
containers and chill thoroughly. You can serve the
lemonade straight up over plenty of ice of dilute it
with some soda water.

Yield: About 1 1/2 gallons

WHAT IS ZESTING?

The "zest" is the outermost layer of a citrus fruit.
The outer layer of citrus holds a large amount of aromatic
oils and taste, which can add a fruity kick to many foods.
There are many ways to remove this outer layer, but the most
common is called zesting...

The simplest way to zest citrus is to use a tool called a
citrus zester. This tool has very small holes at its top
that will cut very shallow ribbons out of the citrus fruit.
Both a vegetable peeler and a box grater are tools that can
be used to zest, however, a citrus zester will yield the
best possible result.

(When using a vegetable peeler, do not press hard into the
citrus in an attempt to avoid disturbing as much pith or
white bitter tasting layer as possible.)
