Be Well,

99 cent saleWhen I was young I wanted to look like the tall, thin and blond women that walked the runways. Cheryl Tiegs seemed to be on every magazine cover about beauty.

The only thing I had in common with Cheryl was that I was taller than average. I was chubby, with brown eyes, curly brown hair and a big dark unibrow! Suffice to say I spent a lot of time not feeling good about myself.

I'm sorry to say it wasn't until I hit my mid-40's that I started to feel pretty. I don't know exactly what the "switch" was but I do know that I started to feel confident in so many aspects of my life. My work life, my family life, my friendships.

Now as enter my late 50's I see beauty when I look in the mirror. Sure I see flaws, but I embrace them because they are me!

I am troubled by society's definition of age and beauty. Everywhere I turn I see women who are desperately trying to erase or alter their looks. In reality most don't look any younger and tend to have this fake, altered, cookie-cutter look. They fear looking and getting old.

Cosmetic companies feed this fear by endless commercials showing twenty-something models talking about anti-aging.

It is time we EMBRACE OUR AGE!

Real beauty isn't looking like a supermodel. They aren't normal. And those magazine covers? They're airbrushed to remove anything deemed an imperfection. and YES, even supermodels will say they have flaws!
Real beauty is about accepting and feeling good about yourself.

Here are four things that I try to do and the days I'm successful I feel beautiful and it all starts with.

Tired of High Air Conditioning Bills?
Here's the solution that pays for itself!

Embrace Your Age...

Instead of worrying about getting older and your "flaws", focus on what's right. Maybe you have an amazing smile (almost EVERYONE does), lively eyes or something else. I guarantee if you look in the mirror with the attitude what do I love about myself, it emboldens you.

Start Living Not Aging...

I love this quote from actress Kelly McGillis: "I don't think there is anything more beautiful than a woman who wears her age gracefully."

I couldn't agree more! There's something incredibly beautiful about a woman with lines on her face. Lines are proof that we've lived life. Lines are on our face because of the way we have expressed ourselves. Even laughing!

Stop trying to cover up your lines and just work on giving your skin a boost! A little color and glimmer can give you a fresh, natural look.

Embrace Your Passion...

Whether you enjoy knitting, scrapbooking, gardening, swimming or spending time with your grandkids, embracing the things you enjoy doing will make you feel better and fill the days with joy.

Try something you've always wanted to do and go for it!

The Rest of Your Life Starts NOW..

You can be healthier, stronger and more fit than you were a year ago. Commit to making smart food choices and moving your body regularly. Notice I didn't say exercise. Do what you can. A good walk can do wonders for your mind and body. Just making a commitment to move more than you did last week will help you look and feel better. It's not a quick fix, but something to do just for yourself.

So save yourself a lot of angst by living in the now, appreciating where you are in life and embracing your age.
