Disney reinstates James Gunn for 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3'

Representatives for Disney and James Gunn confirmed the director has been rehired to helm Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Gunn, who wrote and directed the first two installments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe sci-fi franchise, was reinstated as the director of the next film after several months of meetings with Disney studio officials, including Walt Disney Studios President Alan Horn.

The director, who penned a script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 prior to his dismissal, was removed from the film in July after alt-right journalists unearthed decades-old social media posts in which Gunn made jokes about subjects including pedophilia and rape.

Gunn had apologized for the tweets years earlier, and apologized again when the jokes resurfaced. Horn was reportedly swayed by Gunn's apology and his conduct after his firing.

Marvel Studios has agreed to begin filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 when Gunn has completed work on Suicide Squad 2 for Warner Bros. and Marvel's rival, DC.

Peter Jackson, Taika Waititi urge unity, love after New Zealand mosque attack

New Zealand filmmakers Peter Jackson and Taika Waititi are sharing messages of unity and love in the wake of Friday's attack on two mosques in Christchurch that killed 50 people and injured dozens.

Brenton Tarrant, a 28-year-old Australian citizen, has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the incidents. He is scheduled to appear in the High Court on April 5.

"New Zealanders are devastated," The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit helmer Jackson said in a statement to Variety. "Our hearts go out to all those who have been harmed by this cowardly act of hate. Kiwis stand united in our love and support for our fellow Muslim brothers and sisters. We will do whatever we can to help them heal and rise above this terrible tragedy."

"Do not allow those criminals the satisfaction. Go to Mosque, Church, Synagogue, Marae, Maunga. Sink into community and love. In the words of Bob, "The people who are trying to make this world worse aren't taking a day off. How can I? Light up the darkness." One Love," Thor: Ragnarok director Waititi tweeted.

Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe, who was born in New Zealand, also posted on Twitter a photo of Australia's Sydney Opera House at night with New Zealand's symbol of life, a fern leaf, projected on its side.

"A terrible reason for it, but a gesture of solidarity and shared purpose," Crowe wrote. "My birthplace & my home grieving together. My thoughts go out also to the people of Grafton. A picturesque and proud town, unduly stained. The silver fern of NZ projected on the Sydney Opera House."

LOOSE LIPS:

"A lot of people are very shocked that I married who I married. And some people are even intimidated now by me. But it's another way of showing racism. They can't believe this Mexican ended up in the life that she has, and they're uncomfortable around me."
--Salma Hayek, on the reaction to her marriage to billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault, in Town & Country's latest cover story

Which Sin City actress is 'very much' dating Cory Booker?

Rosario Dawson says she's "very much" dating politician Cory Booker.

The 49-year-old actress voiced her love for the New Jersey senator and presidential hopeful in an interview with TMZ published Thursday.

"So far, so wonderful," she said of the relationship at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. "He's a wonderful human being. It's good to spend some time together when we can."

Dawson said she's happy to be dating Booker but isn't focused on an engagement yet.

Dawson and Booker were linked in January after attending the musical Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway. People said Dawson briefly serenaded Booker during a cast meet-and-greet, singing, "I love you, te amo."

Page Six later reported Dawson and Booker have been dating since December.

Dawson previously dated comedian Eric Andre. She is parent to daughter Lola, whom she adopted in 2014.
