Whoopi Goldberg doing 'OK' after health scare: 'I'm not dead'
Whoopi Goldberg says she's doing "OK" in the wake of her recent health scare.
The 63-year-old actress and television personality gave an update via video message Friday on The View after going septic during a case of pneumonia and coming "very close" to dying.
"I'm up and moving around -- not as fast as I'd like to be -- but I am okay. I'm not dead," Goldberg told viewers.
"I had pneumonia and I was septic," she confirmed. "Pneumonia in both lungs, which meant there was fluid -- there was all kinds of stuff going on. And yes, I came very, very close to leaving the earth. Good news -- I didn't."
Goldberg thanked viewers, her fans and some unlikely supporters for their well-wishes during her illness.
"Thank you for all of your good wishes, all of the wonderful things that people have been saying. Even people that are not, like, huge fans of mine have actually said nice things about me," she said. "Thank you for everything."
Goldberg, who joined The View as a permanent co-host in Season 11, hasn't appeared on the show since Feb. 6. Her co-host Joy Behar addressed her absence during the show's Feb. 20 episode.
"She's not feeling well," Behar said. "She's actually recovering from pneumonia. I saw her last night and she's very funny still, and we had big laughs. She's getting there, she's on the mend."
LOOSE LIPS:
"I feel like there's been a weight lifted off my shoulders and now that everyone knows what I can do, I feel like it's giving me a second win ... I've been proving this for years and years and people still said I was only famous because I used Auto-Tune. But now, you know, that's not true."

'Airwolf' actor Jan-Michael Vincent dead at 73
Hooper and Airwolf star Jan-Michael Vincent has died at the age of 73, said a death certificate issued by North Carolina's Buncombe County Register of Deeds.
TMZ reported Friday that the actor died on Feb. 10 after suffering cardiac arrest at a hospital near his home.
No autopsy was conducted and Vincent's remains were cremated. The exact cause of his death was not released.
Vincent's credits include Deadly Heroes, Alienator, Hard Country, White Line Fever, Lassie, Bonanza, Gunsmoke, The Bandits and The Undefeated. He was most recently seen in the 2002 film White Boy.
The New York Times said Vincent's once-bright career had been sidelined by drug and alcohol abuse.
He broke his neck in 1996 when he rear-ended his girlfriend's car, permanently damaging his vocal cords. In 2012, his right leg was amputated due to an infection.
R. Kelly released from jail after paying $161,000 in child support
R&B singer R. Kelly, who is battling sex-abuse allegations, was released from the Cook County Jail on Saturday morning after paying more than $161,000 in back child support.
The Chicago Sun-Times said Kelly spent three nights behind bars after he was hit with a civil contempt charge when his ex-wife Drea Kelly complained that he missed more than eight months of payments to support his three children.
"I promise we're gonna straighten all this out. That's all I can say right now. I love my fans," TMZ quoted Kelly as saying after he left the jail where screaming admirers waited for him.
Last month, he also spent three nights in jail after he was charged in four sex-abuse cases and failed to post bond right away.
Kelly faces 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse for allegedly assaulting four women, three of whom were underage at the time. The allegations date back to 1998.
In an interview that aired on CBS This Morning Wednesday, Kelly said it's "not true" he had sex with underage girls, held women against their will or sexually assaulted them. He emphasized that he defeated two cases and similar charges years ago.
"People are going back to my past, OK? That's exactly what they're doing," he said. "They're going back to the past, and they trying to add all of this stuff now to that. To make all of this stuff that's going on now feels real to people."
The most charges against Kelly followed the release of a documentary in January called Surviving R. Kelly. He was previously acquitted of child pornography and sex-abuse charges more than a decade ago.

Which Oscar-winning actress said being fired from a Oscar nominated film was a "painful" experience?
Julianne Moore says being fired from a film remains a "painful" experience.
The 58-year-old actress said on Thursday's episode of Watch What Happens Live that screenwriter Nicole Holofcencer let her go from the 2018 movie Can You Ever Forgive Me?, which ultimately starred Melissa McCarthy.
"I didn't leave that movie. I was fired. Nicole fired me," Moore told host Andy Cohen. "I think she didn't like what I was doing."
"We'd kind of just been rehearsing and doing pre-production and stuff, and I think that her idea of where the character was was different than where my idea of the character was, and so she fired me," she explained.
Moore said she hasn't seen Can You Ever Forgive Me?, which stars McCarthy as author Lee Marielle. Marielle, who died in 2014, attempted to revitalize her writing career by forging letters from late authors and playwrights.
"I haven't [seen it] yet 'cause it's still kind of painful," Moore said. "I love Melissa McCarthy. I worship her, I think she's fantastic -- so I'm sure she's great."
Can You Ever Forgive Me? was nominated for three Oscars, including Best Actress for McCarthy and Best Adapted Screenplay for Holofcener and Jeff Whitty. Moore told Cohen she's only been fired once before.
"The only other time I was fired was when I was working at a yogurt stand when I was 15. So yeah, it felt bad," she said.
Moore will star in a number of upcoming movies, including After the Wedding with Michelle Williams and a new film from Luca Guadagnino, who recently directed the Suspiria remake.
