Taika Waititi will not direct 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3'

Deals2018Filmmaker Taika Waititi has confirmed that he will not direct Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 following the firing of series helmer James Gunn.

"Nope. Not doing that movie," Waititi, who directed Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok, told reporters on Monday at the Television Critics Association press tour.

"For me, that's James' film," he continued. "Going into something like that, which has got his stamp all over it, it would feel like going into someone's house and saying 'Hey, I'm your new dad.'"

Waititi also said he has continued to have a relationship with Marvel and wants to make another film for the comic book brand.

Gunn was fired by Disney from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in July after a number of offensive tweets he posted from 2008 to 2009 resurfaced. The tweets, which featured Gunn joking about pedophilia and sexual assault, made the rounds online after they were highlighted by conservative blogs.

Gunn has switched over to Warner Bros. and DC Comics and is set to write and direct a new Suicide Squad film titled The Suicide Squad which will arrive in theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.

Waititi, who was on hand at the Television Critics Association press tour to promote FX's adaptation of his film What We Do in the Shadows, also discussed Marvel's Avengers: Endgame.

"I haven't seen it, so I don't know even what happens. They keep their cards so close to their chests," he told USA Today.

"But from what I've heard, it wraps up everything in a really great way. It feels like the fans are getting rewarded for hanging around for 10 years and watching all these films. Because the more you know about the characters and the stories and stuff, the more satisfying this film will be."

Avengers: Endgame is set to arrive in theaters on April 26.

Freeform orders 10 episodes of new 'Party of Five' series

Freeform said Monday it has ordered 10 episodes of a Party of Five reboot from the original show's creators Amy Lippman and Chris Keyser.

The series stars Brandon Larracuente as Emilio, Emily Tosta as Lucia, Niko Guardado as Beto and Elle Paris Legaspi as Valentina.

"Party of Five embodies the heart and soul of what it means to be a family in the most trying of times. We're so lucky that Freeform gets to be the home for this reimagined story, as we continue to represent the resilience of young adults and the importance of fighting for your voice in times of doubt," Tom Ascheim, president of Freeform, said in a statement.

The network announced in September that it had ordered a pilot episode for a possible update of the series, which initially ran 1994 to 2000 and starred Scott Wolf, Neve Campbell, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Matthew Fox.

The original show followed the Salinger siblings as they fought to stick together after their parents were killed in a car crash.

Which singer denies falling asleep during a TV interview?

Michael Bolton says he didn't fall asleep during a TV interview circulating online this week.

The 65-year-old singer responded in a tweet Tuesday after appearing to doze off during a live segment Monday on an Australian morning show.

"I got my first record deal when I was 15 and I haven't slept since!!" Bolton jokingly told fans.

"In all seriousness there were technical issues with the live feed and they caught me tweeting!" he explained. "We had a great interview once they fixed the glitch. #FakeNews #50thAnniversary #SymphonyOfHits."

Entertainment Tonight Canada said Bolton was appearing on The Morning Show via a live feed from Florida when he seemed to close his eyes. He said, "It's gone silent," before appearing to fall asleep again.

"We might have to come back to Michael," host Kylie Gillies responded.

Gillies' co-host Larry Emdur blamed "technical difficulties" after returning from commercial break. The pair were ultimately able to speak to Bolton, who promoted his new album, A Symphony of Hits. The album was recorded with the WA Philharmonic Orchestra.

"[It was] very emotional the first time when I was there and listening to the arrangements with the orchestra live," Bolton said. "Hearing that come to life and then performing that on tour is deeply gratifying."

Bolton is known for such singles as "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You," "When a Man Loves a Woman" and "Go the Distance." A Symphony of Hits goes on sale Friday.
