Carol Burnett to be honored with special Golden Globe award

Comedy legend Carol Burnett is set to be honored with the inaugural Golden Globe television special achievement award, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association said Tuesday.

The prize will hence forth be known as the Carol Burnett Award.

Burnett, 85, will collect hers at the Golden Globes gala in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Jan. 6. The ceremony honoring excellence in film and television is scheduled to air on NBC.

"For more than 50 years, comedy trailblazer Carol Burnett has been breaking barriers while making us laugh," HFPA President Meher Tatna said in a statement.

Tatna continued: "She was the first woman to host a variety sketch show, The Carol Burnett Show. She was also the first woman to win both the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and Kennedy Center Honors. And now we add another first to her running list: the first recipient -- and namesake -- of the new Golden Globe top honor for achievement in television, the Carol Burnett Award."

Nominations for the 76th Golden Globes were announced last week.

Millie Bobby Brown radios for help in 'Godzilla: King of the Monsters' trailer

Millie Bobby Brown is stranded and radioing for help in the latest trailer for upcoming action-thriller, Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

The clip, released Monday, also features the Stranger Things alum witnessing an epic confrontation between Godzilla and a three-headed dragon known as King Ghidorah.

Other giant monsters such as the butterfly-like Mothra and Rodan who possesses giant wings also make appearances as the United States government decides what to do about these towering threats. One solution involves using Godzilla to take down the others.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters, from director Michael Dougherty, is set to arrive in theaters on May 31. Vera Farmiga, Sally Hawkins, Kyle Chandler, Charles Dance, Ziyi Zhang and Ken Watanabe are also set to star.

Brown is also set to star in Godzilla vs. Kong which will feature the two iconic movie monsters battling it out. The crossover project is set to arrive on May 22, 2020.

Which 'Grey's Anatomy' star hasn't spoken to former co-star Patrick Dempsey in years?

Kathie Lee Gifford to leave 'Today' in April 2019

Longtime Today host Kathie Lee Gifford will leave the show in April 2019.

The 65-year-old television personality confirmed the news during an emotional moment with co-host Hoda Kotb on Tuesday's episode of the NBC morning program.

"It's bittersweet, as these things always are. But I've been here almost 11 years," she said. "When it's our 11th anniversary I'm going to be leaving the Today show."

Gifford and Kotb teared up as they discussed their friendship and Gifford's impending departure.

"I've been in this business 120 years and I've never worked with a more beautiful group of people," Gifford said before thanking Kotb. "You're just so special, Hoda. Thank you so much."

"The moment you stepped into my life with both feet, everything changed," Kotb tearfully responded. "Everything good in my life has happened since you came."

Gifford and Kotb have co-hosted the fourth hour of Today since 2008. NBC News chief Noah Oppenheim said in a memo Tuesday that Gifford is leaving Today to focus on other projects.

"As we all know, Kathie Lee's plate has been overflowing lately with film, music and book projects, and after giving us eleven extraordinary years, she's decided to focus her attention full-time on those other creative endeavors," Oppenheim wrote, according to Deadline.

"When we first launched this incredible hour, no one could have predicted the lightning (or rather, wine) in a bottle that is Hoda & Kathie Lee," he said. "Whether in studio or on one of their many road trips, they have delighted our audience with their distinct brand of fun, friendship and adventure. During that time, Kathie Lee has cemented her status as one of the most enduring and endearing talents in morning television. In short -- she is a legend."

Kotb, who also co-anchors the first two hours of Today, will continue to host the show's fourth hour following Gifford's exit. Oppenheim said NBC will share more plans about the fourth hour in the future.

Dolly Parton thanks fans for support after brother Floyd's death

Dolly Parton is grateful for fans' support in the wake of her brother Floyd's death.

The 72-year-old country start spoke out in a statement Tuesday on Twitter after her youngest brother, Floyd Parton, died at age 61 last week.

"Dolly, and the entire Parton Family, wish to thank everyone for their kindness," Parton said. "Yesterday, we laid our sweet baby brother to rest. We all sang his lovely song, "Rocking Years", together as a family at the service to say goodbye to him. He lived a short life of love and beautiful songs."

"Friends, fans and family may make a donation in his honor to the My People Senior Activity Center in Sevierville, Tennessee," she added.

Floyd, one of Parton's 11 siblings, was a singer-songwriter who wrote the songs "Rocking Years" and "Nickels and Dimes." He died Thursday, Dec. 6, according to his obituary on the Atchley Funeral Home website.

"A renaissance man, Floyd was a man of many talents and areas of knowledge. He was an avid outdoorsman and had an abundant knowledge of nature as well as being an incredible cook," the tribute reads.

Floyd is survived by Parton and their siblings Rachel, Willadeene, Stella, Cassie, Freida, David, Coy, Denver, Bobby and Randy. A 13th sibling, Larry, died shortly after his birth in 1955.

Which 'Grey's Anatomy' star hasn't spoken to former co-star Patrick Dempsey in years?

Ellen Pompeo hasn't spoke to Patrick Dempsey in over three years.

The 49-year-old actress said on Monday's episode of Red Table Talk that she fell out of touch with Dempsey, her former Grey's Anatomy co-star, after he left the show in 2015.

"We haven't spoken since he's left the show," Pompeo told host Jada Pinkett Smith. "I have no hard feelings toward him. He's a wonderful actor and we made, you know, the best TV you could make together."

"That's a talented man right there. He did 11 amazing years," she added. "So, we have not spoken but I will always have a place in my heart for Patrick."

Dempsey played Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd in the first 11 seasons of Grey's Anatomy. He recalled his "special bond" with Pompeo, who portrays Meredith Grey, in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in October.

"That was a very special bond that just -- there was a magic to our connection and that's special," the actor said.

"I think it started with the original cast and the length that it has and the new people that have come in, and it's amazing and it's continuing to affect so many people," he added of the show. "You're a part of television history. It's really remarkable."

Grey's Anatomy is in the midst of its 15th season on ABC. Dempsey has since starred in the movie Bridget Jones's Baby and will return to TV in the upcoming Sky Italia series Devils.
