*--Tips for Calming Your Cough --*

If you notice a cough coming on or already have one that you can't shake, always drink plenty of fluids. A cool-mist humidifier will also help to sooth an irritated throat. Before you go to bed, treat yourself to a little bit of honey. Sweet honey have shown to help ease a cough but you have to make sure that you do not give it to young children specifically 12 and younger.

Something to keep in mind is that antibiotics will not help your cough! Most coughs are caused by viral infections and they will get better within a week. The only way an antibiotic will work is if the infection is caused by bacteria. If you do not need to put antibiotics in your body it is important that you don't and only use them when it is absolutely necessary.

Hot showers will also help your cough by loosening up secretions on your nose. A hot shower will not make your sickness disappear but it can help you when you're experiencing discomfort from postnasal drip, the chills, or a headache.

It is also especially important to know how to prevent a cough or getting sick. Avoid coming in contact with those who are sick. If you are sick, try to stay home from work and if your kids are really sick, keep them home from school. Clean the common areas of your home frequently such as the counters, toys, or phones. Also wash your hands routinely especially after coughing, blowing your nose, or going to the bathroom.
