Cher, Lin-Manuel Miranda lauded at Kennedy Center Honors
Cher and Reba McEntire were among this year's recipients at the 41st annual Kennedy Center Honors gala in Washington, D.C.
Philip Glass, Wayne Shorter and Hamilton collaborators Lin-Manuel Miranda, Thomas Kail, Andy Blankenbuehler and Alex Lacamoire were also honored on Sunday.
The Kennedy Center Honors is an annual, national celebration of the arts. Cher, McEntire, Glass and Shorter received lifetime achievement awards while the Hamilton co-creators were honored for their trailblazing and transformative work.
Gloria Estefan, who was honored last year, hosted the event.
Kelly Clarkson paid tribute to McEntire and performed her song "Fancy." Whoopi Goldberg and Amanda Seyfried spoke about Cher and Cyndi Lauper made a surprise appearance to perform Cher's "If I Could Turn Back Time" and "I Got You Babe" alongside Adam Lambert.
Miranda and Lacamoire performed "One Last Time" from Hamilton and Renee Elise Goldsberry, Jasmine Cephas Jones and Phillipa Soo performed "The Schuyler Sisters" from the musical.
"Art is the only thing that...it was just perfect," Cher said onstage.
"I know that I was born an entertainer to help heal hearts -- by singing, by acting, by letting people laugh. I love to help people with their problems when they come into a concert," McEntire said.
"I hope that they dust their off their feet and come in and have a good time, recharge their batteries, and when they leave they can pick their problems up that are just a little bit lighter when they go home," she continued. "That's what I was supposed to do in this life."
CBS will air a recording of the gala on Dec. 26.
Brie Larson stands ready as 'Captain Marvel' in new poster
Brie Larson is powered-up in the newest poster for Marvel's next superhero epic, Captain Marvel.
The poster, released on Twitter Sunday, features Larson standing heroically as the titular hero in front of a fighter jet and a spaceship.
The image hints at Captain Marvel's origin as an Air Force pilot before she receives super powers and ventures off into outer space.
"Check out the new poster and tune-in to @ESPN's Monday Night Football to see the brand new trailer for Marvel Studios' #CaptainMarvel," Marvel said.
The first trailer for Captain Marvel was released in September. The clip featured Larson crash landing on earth in the '90s with no memory before she is recruited by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to fend off an alien invasion.
Captain Marvel, from directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, is set to arrive in theaters on March 8. Jude Law, Gemma Chan, Annette Bening and Ben Mendelsohn -- as the film's villain -- also star. Djimon Hounsou and Lee Pace will be featured, reprising their villainous roles from Guardians of the Galaxy.
LOOSE LIPS:
"If you're in a situation where you can be yourself and really be honest, that's a good start ... And then if you marry the sexiest, funniest, most beautiful woman in the world, that's a great start."

Amber Heard wears orange to support female victims of violence
Amber Heard tweeted a photo with Aquaman co-stars Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson wearing orange to support female victims of violence.
"#orangetheworld here at the @aquamanmovie press junket in new York," Heard captioned Saturday's image, which shows the actress wearing an orange ribbon pinned to her suit jacket, while Wilson has an orange string tied around his wrist and Momoa has an orange feather tucked in his shirt pocket.
The photo was snapped while the cast members were in Manhattan to promote their superhero movie.
The Orange the World hashtag is explained on the We Rise Initiative's Twitter feed as being part of campaign to prevent violence against women and girls.
Heard has accused her ex-husband -- Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald actor Johnny Depp -- of physically abusing her during their brief marriage. Depp has denied any wrongdoing.
Filming complete on 'Shining' sequel 'Doctor Sleep'
Filming on The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep is complete, writer-director Mike Flanagan announced Saturday.
"So that's a wrap on DOCTOR SLEEP! It's been a long, crazy, truly unique experience," Flanagan wrote in a Facebook post.
He added: "I read the novel as soon as it came out back in 2013, fascinated and moved by the epic story of Dan Torrance and Abra Stone, but I never imagined for a moment that I'd be the person to bring it to the big screen. It's been an honor to spend the last five months with this fantastic cast and crew, and to be trusted with Stephen King's extraordinary story. One of the highlights of my career, without a doubt. Shine on, everyone. Shine on."
Flanagan is best known for helming the Netflix horror series The Haunting of Hill House, based on Shirley Jackson's classic novel.
Doctor Sleep follows the adult version of the terrorized boy featured in The Shining. Starring Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson, Kyliegh Curran, Bruce Greenwood, Zahn McClarnon, Jacob Tremblay and Emily Alyn Lind, the sequel is set for release in 2020, IndieWire said.

Which celebrity couple just got married in India?
Pop singer Nick Jonas married actress Priyanka Chopra in India on Saturday.
People.com reported the bride and groom -- along with members of their wedding party -- wore clothes designed by Ralph Lauren for the western-style ceremony at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
Jonas' three brothers and former band-mates Joe, Kevin and Frankie were among the groomsmen.
The couple announced their engagement in August.
Chopra shared on Instagram photos from the Hindu Mehendi festivities that followed the wedding.
She included the message: "One of the most special things our relationship has given us is a merging of families who love and respect each other's faiths and cultures. And so planning our wedding with an amalgamation of both was so so amazing. An important part for the girl in an Indian wedding is the Mehendi."
