*-- 8 Tips to Beat Holiday Stress--*
1.
Make Sure You're Getting Enough Sleep. Sleep deprivation is a major part of people's mood swings. Between traveling, parties, and over-excited children, it makes it hard to get your usual hours of sleep in. Make yourself a plan to be in bed by a certain time, making sure that you get the right amount of sleep. Most healthy adults need between 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night to feel and function at their best.
2.
Exercise Studies show that one of the quickest and ways to boost your mood is to exercise. If you're away from home and can't do your usual routine, take a short walk. You will still feel better! Not to mention, all of those holiday snacks and goodies may seem to sneak up on you but signing up for a community event such as a holiday walk or run will keep up your motivation.
3.
Stay in control of your eating. I'm guilty of grazing. Whether I am at home for the holidays or someone brings in a holiday snack into the office, I can't resist taking a couple. This holiday season I have chosen to plan ahead. It's helpful knowing what types of foods will be served and if you need to, bring your own dish. Decide what and how much you will eat ahead of time and stick with the healthier choices. It can also be helpful to gather a list of healthy holiday recipes, so you always have a go-to when you need to bring something to a party.
4.
Take your time, Don't be a Procrastinator this Holiday Season. Hurrying to pack, rushing through stores, sprinting to make a flight, these are sure to put you in a bad mood. Set a goal, set a deadline, plan it out, and stick to it! Set your goals and make the most of your holidays!
5.
Learn from the Past. What has made you unhappy in holidays past? Does anything ring a bell? If so, use those memories to avoid your triggers. Stay away from anything that might risk your happiness and comfortability.
6.
Make Time for Real Fun. Sometimes holiday vacations which are supposed to be "fun," are actually a huge pain in the butt. Figure out ways to have fun. Include time for things YOU like to do: going to a movie, taking a nap, get together with friends and play board games. Don't let the holidays become a hassle!
7.
Behave Yourself! Do you often find reasons to put your two cents into something someone else is doing...don't. It might feel good for your own satisfaction, but that'll only last a moment. Then you'll start feeling a sense of remorse. Instead, try to help out and bite your tongue when necessary. Help out or look for opportunities to say, "Don't worry, I'll take care of it," or "What should I be doing?" Doing good is feeling good. The way we act shapes the way we feel, so if you act in an affectionate, thoughtful way, you'll feel more affectionate and thoughtful.
8.
Fill your heart with love. If you're heading into a difficult situation this holiday season, take a moment to fill your heart with love. Think of all the reasons that you're grateful for your family and friends, and the happy memories you've shared. This can be hard to do, but it will make you happier. If you're happy, your ability to make people happy is greater.
