Kanye West 'distancing' from politics, wants to focus on being creative

Kanye West announced on Twitter that he wants to distance himself from politics after months of doubling down on his support forNaomi Watts to star in 'Game of Thrones' prequel President Donald Trump.

"My eyes are now wide open and now realize I've been used to spread messages I don't believe in. I am distancing myself from politics and completely focusing on being creative !!!" West said on Tuesday.

West's comments come after the rapper seemingly became involved with an apparel line titled Blexit that encourages African Americans to leave the Democratic Party. Conservative commentator Candace Owens, whom West has spoken positively about before, created the line.

"I introduced Candace to the person who made the logo and they didn't want their name on it so she used mine. I never wanted any association with Blexit. I have nothing to do with it," West also tweeted on Tuesday.

West, who had started to frequently wear Trump's red "Make America Great Again" hat, had met with the president in October inside the oval office before a law was signed to update U.S. copyright laws.

West said in September that he was bullied backstage at Saturday Night Live over his support for Trump. West was the musical guest on the Season 44 premiere of SNL and proceeded to give a speech about politics onstage after performing and after cameras stopped rolling.

Naomi Watts to star in 'Game of Thrones' prequel

Naomi Watts will have a starring role in the Game of Thrones prequel.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the 50-year-old British actress was cast in the new HBO pilot from Jane Goldman and George R.R. Martin. Game of Thrones is based on Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire book series.

The new show was the first of several potential "successor series" to be picked up to pilot. It is set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, with Watts playing a charismatic socialite with a dark secret.

Martin confirmed Watts' casting in a blog post Tuesday. He said the new series will be titled The Long Night.

"Casting is now underway for The Long Night, the first of the Game of Thrones successor series to ordered to film," the author wrote. "HBO has just announced the first cast member: Naomi Watts is coming on board as one of our stars."

Deadline said Goldman will serve as showrunner and co-executive produce with Martin, Vince Gerardis and Daniel Zelman. It previously reported the prequel will begin filming in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in October.

Game of Thrones will return for an eighth and final season in 2019. The series stars Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams and Peter Dinklage.

Watts is known for such films as Mulholland Drive, The Ring and Eastern Promises. She also starred in the Twin Peaks revival and the Netflix series Gypsy.

Even if you get success or you grow up or you become good-looking or whatever, the things that you think will fix the thing, you kind of carry some part of that with you."

Ava DuVernay to direct Prince documentary for Netflix

Filmmaker Ava DuVernay is set to direct a documentary on late music icon Prince for Netflix.

The film has the full backing of Prince's estate. The singer had also previously reached out to DuVernay about working together before his death in April 2016, Deadline reported.

DuVernay, editor Spencer Averick and other members of the production crew have been visiting Prince's Minneapolis-area property, Paisley Park, and recording studios.

"Prince was a genius, a joy and a jolt to the senses. He was like no other. He shattered preconceived notions, smashed boundaries, and shared his heart through his music. The only way I know how to make this film is with love and great care. I'm honored to do so and grateful," DuVernay said in a statement.

Prince's death investigation was closed in April with no criminal charges being filed. An autopsy report stated that Prince had died from a fatal, self-administered dose of fentanyl, a powerful painkiller.

A documentary about Prince and the Revolution's concert at Minneapolis' First Avenue in 1983 is also in development at Apple, Variety reported. The concert featured several songs that would later appear on the Purple Rain album.

DuVernay is best known for helming Selma, A Wrinkle in Time and 13th for Netflix, a documentary about the prison system in the United States and racial inequality. She is also set to direct The New Gods for Warner Bros., a superhero movie based on the DC Comics series created by the late Jack Kirby.
