Here's the Scoop...

Surprise Me 2Who say this coming?! The Cats movie adaptation is reportedly eyeing Idris Elba. What?!

Variety confirmed the 46-year-old British actor is in final negotiations to join the big-screen version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical.

Elba would play Macavity, a master criminal, in the new film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The character is the subject of the song "Macavity the Mystery Cat."

The Cats movie is being helmed by Tom Hooper, the Oscar-winning director of The King's Speech. The film will co-star Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, Ian McKellen and James Corden.

Cats is based on the T.S. Eliot book Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. Webber's musical debuted on the West End in 1981 and opened on Broadway the next year.

Elba is known for playing Stringer Bell on The Wire and John Luther on Luther. He will reprise Luther in a fifth season on the BBC, and is also slated to star in the Netflix series Turn Up Charlie.

I can't picture Idris Elba in a cat suit. However, I can picture him in a tuxedo as James Bond. Make this happen, people!

Be Well,
Steve

Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson split

Singer Ariana Grande and Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson have broken up and ended their engagement, according to multiple reports.

Grande and Davidson are said to have split over the weekend, TMZ reported, citing sources.

People Magazine also confirmed that the pair has split.

"It was way too much too soon," a Grande source said. "It's not shocking to anyone."

Grande and Davidson were engaged in June after a few weeks of dating.

"We met on SNL, like, two, three years ago," Grande said of Davidson previously on The Tonight Show. "We never, like, exchanged numbers or anything, we weren't even friends for a long time, but I had the biggest crush in the whole world on him."

"I left and I jokingly said to my tour manager, I was like, 'I'm marrying him, 100 percent.' I was like, 'I'm literally marrying him,'" she continued.

Grande got together with Davidson following her relationship with rapper Mac Miller, who died in September. Grande honored Miller on social media and then announced through her rep that she would be taking some time off.

"Given the events of the past couple of years, Ariana is going to take some much needed time to heal and mend," the rep said in a statement. "She will be staying close to home and using this period to spend time with her loved ones and work on new music without deadline. She thanks her fans for their understanding."

'Roseanne' spinoff 'The Conners' debuts on ABC; Barr weighs in

Matriarch Roseanne Conner's fate was revealed in the first few seconds of the debut episode of The Conners Tuesday night.

The show is a spinoff of the classic sitcom, Roseanne, which starred Roseanne Barr from 1988 to 1997, and remained popular in re-runs for years. The original series was briefly revived last spring until Barr was fired for making racially charged remarks on Twitter.

ABC later announced it would revamp the show without Barr's involvement. How her character would be written off was not revealed until now.

"It's been three weeks since Grannie Rosie's funeral. Why are people still giving us casseroles?" Roseanne's grandson Mark, played by Ames McNamara, wondered aloud as the family gathered in the Conner kitchen.

"We could not have held this altogether without you," Roseanne's daughter Darlene, played by Sara Gilbert, told her aunt, Jackie, played by Laurie Metcalf.

"That's why I'm here. I know Roseanne would want me to step in and watch over the family," Jackie said.

"No, it would kill her, but she's already dead, so carry on," Jackie and Roseanne's mother, Beverly, played by Estelle Parsons, chimed in.

Maya Lynne Robinson was also seen in the episode as Geena Williams-Conner, a U.S. soldier returning from Afghanistan and the religious wife of Michael Fishman's D.J.

Geena and D.J. are the parents of a young daughter named Mary, played by Jayden Rey. Mary tries to get her loved ones to eat better and is the first to mention a cause for Roseanne's death -- a heart attack.

Jackie later tells John Goodman's Dan, Roseanne's husband, that an autopsy indicated Roseanne actually overdosed on opioids she took following knee surgery.

Shortly after the episode aired, Barr tweeted, "I AIN'T DEAD, (expletives)!!!!"

LOOSE LIPS:

"I gave him a...phone for senior citizens. It has huge buttons. It's fantastic... [He gave me] two beautiful rings, one that said 'Love.' And I gave him a Jitterbug phone. I need to work on my romance skills."
--Melissa McCarthy, on the gifts she and husband Ben Falcone exchanged for their 13th anniversary, on The Ellen DeGeneres Show

Enrico Colantoni signs on for 'Veronica Mars' revival

Enrico Colantoni has signed on to reprise his role as the titular character's father in the Hulu revival of cult favorite series Veronica Mars.

Colantoni, who portrayed Keith Mars as a series regular for three seasons on UPN and the CW, as well as the 2014 crowdfunded Veronica Mars film, has signed on to join series star Kristen Bell for the eight-episode revival on streaming service Hulu.

The limited series, which follows the former teen detective as she attempts to track down a serial killer stalking the streets of Neptune, Calif., will also feature returning series stars Jason Dohring (Logan), Percy Daggs III (Wallace Fennel), Francis Capra (Weevil) and David Starzyk (Richard Casablancas).

Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas, who is also helming the new series, previously said the show would eschew the nostalgic tone of the 2014 film in favor of returning to the original series' California noir roots.

Production on the revival series is expected to begin at the end of October.

Which actress gets mistaken for such celebrities as Natalie Portman, Britney Spears, and more?

Keira Knightley appeared on The Late Late Show and said fans mistake her for other celebrities, including Natalie Portman and Britney Spears.

"I've been chased through an airport as Natalie Portman," Knightley said Tuesday to host James Corden.

"I've been chased through a park as Kate Winslet. Quite a few people have come over to me to ask me to say hello to Daniel Craig for them because they think I'm Rachel Weisz," she continued.

Knightley also said that she was confused for Spears in Los Angeles and took a photo with a fan who believed she was the pop star.

"It was a weird one," the actress said of the interaction and noted that she finds herself being more polite when fans mistake her for somebody else.

Fellow Late Late Show guest Kathryn Hahn said that she gets confused for Saturday Night Live star Ana Gasteyer.

Knightley previously said on The Graham Norton Show in 2014 that she has been mistaken for Spears three times.
