Director shares first photo of Joaquin Phoenix in standalone 'Joker' film
Director Todd Phillips posted on Instagram Sunday the first photo of Joaquin Phoenix in their standalone Joker film.

"Arthur," Phillips captioned the image of Phoenix, who stares at the camera -- unsmiling and without the titular villain's signature clown makeup.

Phoenix, 43, has unkempt, collar-length hair and is wearing a rumpled, button-down shirt and jacket in the picture.

Phoenix's previous films include To Die For, Gladiator, Quills, Her and Walk the Line. Phillips is known for helming The Hangover comedy trilogy.

Warner Bros. plans to release the Joker origin film on Oct. 4, 2019.

The dark-toned movie is to take place outside of the existing DC extended film universe and is intended to help launch a new DC Comics banner that will allow the movie studio to tell unique comic-book stories using different actors in the title roles.

The Joker was last portrayed by Jared Leto in Suicide Squad. He is expected to reprise the role in a Suicide Squad sequel and in a standalone film he is executive producing.

Before that, the character was played by Jack Nicholson and the late Heath Ledger. Mark Hamill has voiced the character in several animated projects.

'Friends' alum Matthew Perry says he spent the summer in the hospital
Friends alum Matthew Perry has returned to Twitter for the first time since March to give fans an update on his health.

"Three months in a hospital bed. Check," he tweeted Friday.

E! News said it is unclear exactly what kept him in bed for so long.

People.com said Sunday Perry is finally heading home after his extended hospital stay, but the magazine offered no other details regarding his condition.

Perry's representative said last month the 49-year-old actor underwent surgery in Los Angeles to repair a gastrointestinal perforation.

"He is grateful for the concern and asks for continued privacy as he heals," his spokesman said at the time.

Perry is also known for his work on The Odd Couple, The West Wing and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.

The Golden Globe Awards will continue to air on NBC for the next eight years, thanks to a new deal the network signed with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

The HFPA is the group that chooses the winners of the prizes.

The gala honoring excellence in film and TV has been broadcast on NBC for the past 23 years.

The next edition of the ceremony is to take place Jan. 6. Nominations are to be announced Dec. 6.

"We look forward to airing the Golden Globe Awards on NBC for the next eight years at least," Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, said in a statement Friday. Which singer says Motley Crue is recording new music?

Motley Crue singer Vince Neil has announced on Twitter that the band is getting back together in the studio to record new music.

"Exciting news! I'll be going back in recording studio in a few weeks with the boys to record 4 brand new Motley Crue tracks! Rock On!!" Neil said on Twitter Thursday.

The reunion comes after Motley Crue called it quits in 2015 following what they said was their final tour.

Neil posted a follow-up tweet where he confirmed that Motley Crue never broke up following the final tour.

"For those of you who don't understand, yes 'the boys' means Motley and we signed a contract not to tour anymore. We never broke up or said we would never make music again. Hope this clears it up," he said.

Motley Crue, which also consists of drummer Tommy Lee, bassist Nikki Sixx and guitarist Mick Mars, will be the subject of a Netflix biopic titled The Dirt. The film, which currently has no release date, is directed by Jeff Tremaine (Jackass) and stars rapper Machine Gun Kelly as Lee.
