Greetings Infomaniacs,

Elephants are some of the largest creatures in the world. They are also known to be extremely intelligent. The saying that someone has the memory of an elephant means that they can remember just about anything and should be taken as a compliment.

Despite the many conservation efforts in place, elephants are in danger of surviving in the wild. Part of the reason is the destruction of their natural habitat, but part of it is ivory poaching. This is particularly distressing as there is absolutely no need for it. Anything that can be made from ivory can also be made from cheaper, oftentimes better alternatives that do not require the death of an innocent animal.

One study found that elephants avoided eating a certain tree that's home to ants. The study suggests that elephants want to avoid getting ants inside their trunks.

Asian elephants don't run. It doesn't mean they're lazy - running requires lifting all four feet at once, and Asian elephants were found to keep at least two feet on the ground at all times.

Contrary to your favorite elephant cartoon character, these animals aren't fond of peanuts. They don't eat them in the wild and aren't fed them in captivity.
