'The City of Your Final Destination' DVD

Anthony Hopkins, Laura Linney and Charlotte Gainsbrough
play major roles in this drama directed by James Ivory of
Merchant Ivory fame. The screenplay was written by Ruth
Prawer Jhabvala based on Peter Cameron's 2002 novel. The
main character is Omar Razaghi (Omar Metwally), a young
Iranian-American graduate student at Kansas University,
whose academic career depends on publishing a biography
of a deceased novelist. Omar travels to a remote estate
in Uruguay, where he must deal with the novelist's widow
(Linney), his mistress (Gainsbrough) and his brother
(Hopkins).

'Furry Vengeance' DVD

Brendan Fraser stars in this live-action family comedy
with a message about the evils of real-estate development.
Dan Sanders (Fraser) relocates his family from Chicago to
Oregon, where he is in charge of replacing a forest with a
sprawling housing tract. The company claims to be eco-
friendly and green, but it's not. Led by a raccoon, the
creatures of the forest team up in an effort to save their
homeland. The movie uses live animals, enhanced with a lot
of CGI work. The animals make sounds to communicate, but
they don't talk. There are crude jokes involving urination
and defecation.

'The Last Song' DVD

Miley Cyrus stars in this melodrama presented by Walt Disney
and based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, who also co-wrote
the screenplay. Teenager Ronnie Miller (Cyrus) is unhappy
that her dad (Greg Kinnear) and mom (Kelly Preston) got div-
orced. Ronnie is sullen when she and her younger brother come
to spend the summer with their dad at his Georgia beachfront
home. But things change for her when she meets and gets into
a romance with a hunky rich guy (Liam Hemsworth). However,
this is a Nicholas Sparks story where other emotional issues
arise to complicate young Ronnie's life.
