David Benioff, D.B. Weiss bringing 'Three-Body Problem' to Netflix

Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are adapting Chinese author Liu Cixin's sci-fi trilogy The Three-Body Problem for Netflix.

Benioff, Weiss and Alexander Woo (Terror: Infamy) are writing and executive producing the series, which will cover all three books in the trilogy, including The Three-Body Problem, The Dark Forest and Death's End.

The book series follows humanity's first contact with an alien civilization.

Brad Pitt, Rosamund Pike and Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson are also executive producing. Cixin and Ken Liu, who wrote the English translations of the first and third books, are serving as consulting producers.

This is Benioff and Weiss' first project since HBO's Game of Thrones. The duo have an overall deal at Netflix, the same as Woo.

"Liu Cixin's trilogy is the most ambitious science-fiction series we've read, taking readers on a journey from the 1960s until the end of time, from life on our pale blue dot to the distant fringes of the universe. We look forward to spending the next years of our lives bringing this to life for audiences around the world," Benioff and Weiss said in a joint statement.

Pierce Brosnan to play WWII veteran in 'The Last Rifleman'

Pierce Brosnan will star in the upcoming film The Last Rifleman.

Variety confirmed Brosnan, will play a World War II veteran in the new movie, directed by Terry Loane (Mickybo and Me).

The Last Rifleman centers on a WWII veteran and recent widower (Brosnan) living in a care facility in Northern Ireland. On the 75th anniversary of D-Day, the character escapes and journeys to France to pay his final respects.

The film is inspired by Bernard Jordan, a real-life WWII veteran who, at the age of 89, escaped his care home and made his way to Normandy to commemorate the D-Day landings in 2014.

WestEnd Films has acquired worldwide rights to the film and will introduce the project at the Toronto International Film Festival. Deadline said production will begin in Northern Ireland and Ireland in the winter.

The Last Rifleman is written by Kevin Fitzpatrick and is produced by Katy Jackson and John Leslie. Mark Huffam, Kevin Jackson, Nick Leese, Eloise Singer and Tommy Curran will executive produce.

"When I first read Kevin's screenplay, I found it to be a beautifully touching story with an honest heart and soul. It is the script that directors search for: a powerful, character-led drama that perfectly balances heart and pathos," Loane said. "The personal price paid by those in the aftermath of war is something that resonates with all ages, all over the world."

"Bernard Jordan's daring journey caught the nation's attention and highlighted the spirit that epitomized the second world war generation," Fitzpatrick added. "I was enthralled by this story and the motives that drive a man near the end of his life on a quest to a place that must hold only painful memories."

Brosnan most recently starred in Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, which premiered on Netflix in June. He will appear in the upcoming Cinderella movie starring Camila Cabello.

Farm Aid virtual festival to feature Willie Nelson, Dave Matthews

Willie Nelson's Farm Aid festival is going virtual in 2020.

Organizers said Tuesday that Farm Aid 2020 will stream online Sept. 26 as a "virtual at-home festival experience" due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Nelson and his Farm Aid co-founders Neil Young and John Mellencamp will perform, along with Dave Matthews, Chris Stapleton, Margo Price, Black Pumas, Bonnie Raitt and Boz Scaggs, Brandi Carlile and Edie Brickell with Charlie Sexton.

Jack Johnson, Jamey Johnson, Jon Batiste, Kelsey Waldon, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Nathaniel Rateliff, Particle Kid, The Record Company, Valerie June and The War and Treaty will also take the stage.

Farm Aid is an annual benefit concert for American farmers. This year's festival will highlight the issues of sustainable agriculture, the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and the struggle for racial justice.

"This pandemic and so many other challenges have revealed how essential family farmers and ranchers are to the future of our planet," Nelson said in a statement. "Farm Aid 2020 is going to give the whole country a chance to learn about the important work of farmers and how they're contributing to our well-being, beyond bringing us good food."

Matthews and Price discussed Farm Aid 2020 during Tuesday's episode of Good Morning America. Matthews said farmers are integral to the U.S. but often seem to be forgotten.

"I think that [farmers] are at the heart of everything that human beings have," the singer said. "It seems all too often that the farmers are forgotten or they are voiceless and their struggles remain very often unheard."

Farm Aid 2020 will stream on farmaid.org, the Farm Aid YouTube channel, AXS TV and Fans.com.

Which 21 Jump Street star is releasing a children's book?

Channing Tatum will release the children's book The One and Only Sparkella.

The 40-year-old actor will publish the picture book, illustrated by Kim Barnes, in May 2021.

Sparkella is inspired by Everly, Tatum's 7-year-old daughter with his ex-wife, Jenna Dewan. Tatum shared a photo Monday on Instagram of himself wearing fairy wings and surrounded by his daughter's toys.

"Guys, I don't know about you but things got a little weird for me in quarantine. I ended up accidentally locking myself in my 7 year old daughter's room. And I ended up finding my inner child. So this is what I created for my little girl. From what is, I guess, the little girl in me. Thanks for reading. #Sparkella," he captioned the post.

Publisher MacMillan described Sparkella as "a charming ode to self-esteem and the love between a father and daughter."

Sparkella follows Ella, a young girl excited for her first day at a new school. When her classmates reject her look, Ella's dad encourages her to be herself and let her sparkle shine.

Tatum shared a video in 2018 of himself and Everly making slime. He said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2017 that his daughter wasn't a fan of his and Dewan's film Step Up.

"Within 10 seconds, she was like, 'Can I watch a real movie? Like, a good one?'" Tatum said.

Tatum last appeared in the 2017 film Kingsman: The Golden Circle. He has since had voice roles in the animated movies Smallfoot and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.
