Does Type 2 Affect Body Heat?

Older people with type 2 diabetes may have a hard time cooling down after exercise, a small study found, which could leave them susceptible to heat-related ailments. Researchers recruited 10 adults with type 2 diabetes and 10 people without the condition, making sure the groups' makeup was similar in terms of age (mid-50s), gender, aerobic fitness, and body size. The participants cycled for an hour in a controlled environment kept at a balmy 86 degrees while the researchers monitored their body heat. People without diabetes cooled off twice as well as those with the disease, perhaps because diabetes can damage the blood vessels, which are involved in regulating body heat. Drinking plenty of fluids and avoiding exercise in hot weather can help prevent heat exhaustion and other conditions.
