Most Americans do not eat the U.S. daily recommended amount of fresh fruits and veggies, which is too bad because eating a plant-based diet is linked to lower risk of heart disease, cancer and other major health issues.

While going vegetarian may be impractical or unrealistic for a lot of people, many of the health benefits of a more vegetarian diet can be gained from juicing.

Today's Random Fact:

Juicing allows you to eat all of your fruits and vegetables raw. This is a benefit because depending on cooking temperature and time, vitamins and antioxidants are lost in varying degrees while cooking. Also, while cooking raw foods proteins become denatured, which renders them useless to the body.

Bonus Fact:

Raw foodists argue that humans are the only mammals that continue to drink milk after being weaned because of the belief that milk is important for calcium. However, plants provide all the calcium the body needs without the health risks of milk. Some of the best sources of calcium are collard greens, kale, spinach, okra, broccoli, and almonds.
