CLAIM TO FAME: She is best known to English-language audiences for the 1988 film Rain Man, and the Hot Shots! films.
FAMILY LIFE: She has been in a relationship with actor Riccardo Scamarcio since April 2006.
INFO: Golino began working as a model in Athens at the age of 14, and shot commercials for beer, perfume, and makeups. She dropped out of high school, and despite the fact that she did not study acting, won the leading role in Little Flames (1985). The next year, she won the Best Actress Award at the Venice Film Festival for A Tale of Love (1986).
She soon gained big roles in Rain Man (1988), Hot Shots! (1991) and Hot Shots! Part Deux (1993). Even though she was known as a dramatic actress in Italy, most of the offers she received in Hollywood were for comedies.
TRIVIA: In addition to David di Donatello, Silver Ribbon, Golden Ciak and Italian Golden Globe awards, she also won a Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival.
Never thought about pursuing a film career until she made her first movie: in fact she wanted to be a cardiologist.
Was diagnosed with scoliosis at 11 and had to have a steel rod implanted in her back for five years.
Acted with her ex-boyfriend Benicio Del Toro in three film: Big Top Pee-wee (1988), The Indian Runner (1991) and Submission (1995).
Was Patricia Arquette's maid of honor at her wedding to Thomas Jane.
Speaks Italian, Greek, French and English.
WHERE IS SHE NOW: In 2013 she directed her first feature film, Honey, which was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and won a commendation from the Ecumenical Jury. She is a member of AMPAS thanks to the invitation of Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. She has recent roles in the Italian films The Invisible Boy (2014) and An Italian Name (2015).
